Ordered my new laptop
cant wait for it to come.
its a Dell XPS M1330
it has:
Intel Core 2 duo e8300 2.4ghz (45nm BABY!)
3gigs of DDR2 ram
GeForce 8400 GS
13.3" LED Backlit screen
Wireless N built in
9 Cell Battery
200gb 7200RPM laptop harddrive
it is the second lightest/smallest laptop in the 13.3" market (the only laptop smaller is the Macbook Air)
and most importantly it can play games.
it has a massive battery life (LED backlit means monitor takes up much less battery life, 45nm processor means less power needed for it, the 9 cell battery means tons o juice)
im psyched, im going to have a 13.3in gaming machine, i paid $1670 for it, including a 4 year accidental warranty.

im hoping i wont need one since its running on a 45nm processor and uses LED's for the screen which generate alot less heat.
the main reason i got it was so that i could have something i can do homework on when i start school again this fall without worrying if i am near an outlet or near a home network (w00t for Wireless N being so freaking long-range)
i should get 5 hours on movies/games
and close to 7to9 when i under-clock it for my documents and web-browsing.

if you do this a lot (laptop on your lap) it lowers sperm count supposedly. no idea by how much but ive heard this and know there are studies out there about it.
also, about over heating, my gf laptop (which is now a huge paper weight) got really hot. so hot, it would do damage to the harddrive and corrupt certain sectors. then when she would try and access some data on those sectors it would just die on here. either freeze or just turn off on its own. totally skipped the blue screen of death phase lol. now it can access certain sectors to get the harddrive going i guess and we can get it on. it even hangs for an infinite amount of time when we tried to reformate it. we have no idea what is wrong with it, but i know the heat did it. stupid emachines laptops. i wish i was going with her when she went to buy it. could have avoided it all lol.
bottom line, if it gets really hot, just hibernate that beast.

It's because of the heat, like staying in a hot tub, though you're more likely to have a laptop on your lap for quite a lot longer. They cook your little friends....
Hey Thor what have your heard about the Dell XPS 2010. Is it good or should I look elsewhere?

i heard that the first batch was having problems or something.
i think it was something about the keyboard... im not sure. i believe its fine now.
its really not so much a laptop, as it is a massive portable computer.
the specs are weird for a $2000/$3000 laptop. i would wait as they should be offering new hardware for it anytime now. (especially since both the video card and processor are each a generation old. the video card is almost two generations old!)
i would spring for the Alienware laptop before the 2010.
