One more time
Lets face it you guys, im getting old and so is ff7. ive been meaning to play it but sitting at home playing the original playstation while my ps3 is sitting right next to it... i have a hard time and i cave to the likes of fallout 3 and killzone 2.
buuuuut
as of yesterday 6/2/09, FF7 was ported as in the original game to the PSN. so now, those with a ps3 or psp can play this classic on those systems (only $10 too! a steal given the ridiculous ebay prices). this seems like a small deal but i take the train every morning on an hour+ commute so being able to play FF7 on the go is a dream come true. This of course means that im finally going to fully play though the game one more time. but im looking to do a complete play through. i want it all. everything.
instead of reading an endless amount of walkthrough i thought id ask you all (who im sure are better experts than myself).
here's what i want to know:
-what are the items/materia/events that can only be done/acquired once. Things that i can go back and get dont bother me but things that i can miss and will lose forever.. that bugs me. so if you all could like.. list the materia name at least i can use that to search its location or whatever.
also something i never got into (because i was like 11 and built forts for 13 hours of the day) the materia combos. i know later in the game there are some crazy materia combos. so if you could just list anything you think is awesome materia combo wise that would rock.
anything else you think i should know about the game feel free to let me know because i do want to have as perfect a game as possible. something i can always go back to and not feel regret lol.

if you want a perfect game
then a walkthrough is a lot better than asking us what we remember that way you miss nothing and it will tell you exasctly when to do what XD

The summon Alexander is found in some ice maze along with 2x cut and you only have 1 opportunity to get it.
final attack materia + phoenix summon = uber pwnage
I'm playing through the game right now for the first time in 3 or so years and as I come across things I will post them here. From what I remember... not many things in the game are 'one time only' get it or lose it type. Alexander is the only thing I can think of...

w-item - item duplication cheat:
select megalixer as first item, confirm, select megalixer as second item, deny, select megalixer as second item, deny, select megalixer as second item, deny. etc - every time you deny you get an additional item
w-summon + Knights of Round + mimic = biggest pwnage in the game
all + master magic materia = uber pwn

you can also use "quadra magic" with a kick ass materia ^-^ for example, you could equip your party with mime, and each of them have TKotR paired with quadra magic. that'd give you a strong attack ^-^ though it would take ages XD quadra magic paired with ultima's also a strong combination ^-^
...btw, where can i get the psp version >.> XD

first off, its download only. theres no umd for it retail. second, i assume you have a psp right? log into the playstation store and as of today it will be on the front page. if not go into the ps1 classics section and itll be there. its about 1.36 gigs so youll need a decent sized card to play it.
it does take a while to dl though, but as i understand it, there is a way to access the store on your pc (just got to the playstation home page and im sure they will tell you how. it might be a program you have to dl to get access to the store. then youd dl it, and just hook your psp up to your pc via a usb cable and transfer. and bam there you go.
and as for missing stuff. i know there was a blue materia that i missed and it was forever gone so i couldnt get the master blue materia. not sure what it actually was but ill be sure to check a walkthrough for that.
as for using a walkthrough for everything Arc, i havent played the game in so long that i mostly forget the story past the first disc so i do want it to be like a real play through. and since most stuff isnt a onetime only pick up, a perfect save wont be toooo hard to come by. if i did it in ff10 i should be able to do it in ff7 i figure.

and i believe there were only three master materias you could get, not sure if you could get a master blue one...
though you do use the blue huge materia to get Neo bahamut...

thanks guys. guess i didnt miss out on too much my first play through after all.
and ill keep that section in mind tsuki.
also... i feel guilty that i didnt beat (or even come close to beating) crisis core and now im playing the original. should i stall the ff7 play through and finish up crisis core or... is everyone meh to that?
