On a scale of 1 - 10....

So personally I'm happy that the makers of Final Fantasy got rid of whatever contract it had with Sony so now it's on the Xbox 360, so before I buy this could I get honest opinions on what the rating of this game is?

I gave it a 7, I think. My persistence made it unenjoyable for the most part. If you just follow the rules you will probably enjoy the game more than I did.
Pros: Australian voice actors gave it a lot of character
A good story, though very corny
Some really good one line quotes.
A fast start, no young boy waking up in bed being late for his coming-of-age festival lol
Good music, I thought.

Cons: The cutscenes are not good at telling you the story. You'll be reading the datalog for hours piecing together whats what. You could go without it, but i bet when you do read it you will go "ooooh that's ..." etc. That's just really pathetic in my opinion. Thay could have added a cutscene explaining what a fal'cie was, or something to integrate it into the game. But instead you have to read pages of text, it's just really separate from the game. They obviously saw how successful gamefaqs was and thought, yes, lets make all of our details in text as well, text is the new black!
>All the fighting will tire you out mentally, and probably make you quit in rage a few times. It was just draining and not enjoyable for the most part.
>Really, the game is extremely short.
>Summons are weaker than a nerd at a jock conference.

I highly doubt anyone will have this as their favourite FF game, ever lol

With the Battle mode:
The battle mode is good for bosses, but then you have to use the same formula for the millions of 'random' enemies and it is way too tiresome. If you don't use the correct formula for battle, you will die. If you forget to add a style of paradigm for battle, you'll die.
Some boss battles can be really long and so the battle mode is rewarding for that but doesn't work at all for the short battles as some enemies are actually quite tough and you will have to fight them a lot of times. Why is this annoying? Well In some games like FFX, I've been frustrated at times. For example right near the end when you happen to get a random battle with a malboro..that's annoying. But in FF13 there is just a seemingly never ending supply of enemies and you can't make it fun by trying something different or finishing them easily with your power. You have to do the same strategy each time, as each new battle begins the same way, no carry over overdrives or buffs. As i said at the start, you must follow the "rules" and pretty much have to use the same strategy for every random enemy each time (Hence my annoyance.) What's more, if you walk back through an area, all the enemies you killed will be back! Those three zombies are back walking about in the same circles as before... Cheap programming is just really pathetic, as fang would put it XD

I honestly died about 80 times in this game though. That was before I decided to get serious and just finish the game.

You can only control one character too, to an extent. You can give orders to all 3 but it would take about an hour to defeat a lizard. Strangely if a party member dies, you can revive him. If YOU die, game over.

I just hope they destroy all their computers containing the battle mode program at square.

There's a datalog with information that actually matters? No wonder I thought the story was loose and uninformative, and had no idea what the hell was going on even 5 hours into the game...

My opinion doesn't count because I didn't finish the game, and it has become clear to me whenever I discuss my difficulties with this game to anybody that I'm doing everything wrong.

Instant game over upon death of the controlled character has never been a good idea in party based games, yet Square did it anyways. And adding in enemies that are easily capable of killing any random party member with a single attack doesn't make it better.

The fights are extremely slow, and extremely repetitive (that is, unless you find the mythical "correct" way of doing things, and do only it over and over, only adding to the repetitiveness), and it gets frustrating quickly when you lose 3+ hours of play because you died at the last enemy before the save point.

I'm sure somebody will come in here to point out how all of this is wrong, but again, I didn't beat the game (and never will), so I have no say.

They never had a contract with Sony Reno, they are Japanese producers, so their main target was Japan for a long time. The PS is the King of Japan for the hardcore gamers. So them porting this to 360 is only because they now know that the NA markets are actually a viable market.

I would say if you want great graphics play it on the PS3 if you just want to play and have a 360 go with it, but it has very reduced graphics and compressed cut scenes.

Of 1- 10, I would give this a 6 maybe 6.5... I would play it again a long time from now, though I haven't beat it, so I cannot say that the score I give now will be the final score.

Im of a different opinion then most the people here it seems XD I gave it a 9. The cut scenes are beautiful and I was never confused with the plot. I didnt think they went on too long either...because Im actually playing a game I think that does that now...and I never thought that with FF13. I also actually enjoyed the battle system...and did not struggle with it...I only died several times in the whole game not counting the extra hunts that are optional to complete. Yes you might have to try a little bit sometimes to do fights...but I never found this to be a bad thing...because of the different jobs and functions of the jobs you will have to pick the ones that will aid you best when fighting certain enemies, but thats not hard to do because you have a variety...its not like theres only one end all formula for fights...honestly I never had a problem with it. The only really negative I give the game is yes it is very linear...I wasnt really bothered that much about it...but about 70% of the game you've got pretty much 0 options of where to go. No world map like in other ff games. I actually put ff13 as my 2nd favourite ff....so I say get it XD

I agree with Aruko.
I'd give it an 8 just because it takes awhile to get going.

Funky. I didn't know that... that explains a lot.

Graphics for final fantasy kick ass but I dont think they're worth buying a new game system over

Not yet anyway

If they come out with enough new frickin awesome games on the PS3 that might be a different story.

Actually they could have had an agreement... I dunno but I assume what I thought was correct is. I know for a fact there are a crap load less 360's than PS3's in Japan. And also that most Japanese devs don't really think about outside markets other than Japan. The only reason to start now is how much money goes into video games these days.

man we are two totally different minds XD: coz for me it's always been about ff XD i mean i'd buy new consoles just to play a ff game XD hence, i got the ps3 -.-hence i got the ps2 to play ff's there XD

well, quite honestly i'm with rukie and mikey there, i give it an 8
it was not necessary to read the datalog, though i agree with stapps, at first i didn't even know how to spell l'cie right.

i liked the battle system, even when most ppl would just hit "auto battle" or whatever, it's way better to select the commands manually, otherwise you'll most likely never see the character's special attacks. the paradigm system was something new to ff, i don't think any other ff allowed it. yeah sure, you had jobs in fft and ff3 i think, but you just stuck with your job through the whole battle, and couldn't decide which combo was best according to your situation (aka getting your ass kicked lol)

again, i agree with stapps XD fang's accent is really something, i'd smile whenever i heard her speak XD totally different from the other characters'. vanille...well i won't say a thing, i don't want ppl hurting me ; ;

graphics, as i know most have pointed out and it's obvious, are awesome. ff13 is a pretty game, it was a sad thing you couldn't explore every single corner, it would've made the game way bigger =D (yes, i like big games -.-)

i agree with anubis, at the beginning, the linearity of the game doesn't help matters if you're plain annoyed with not understanding a thing, though i assure you, if you just pay attention while the other characters are speaking you'll get the story quite nicely XD

again, it is NOT necessary to read the datalog, most of the times it's just an outline of what happened during the chapter: "vanille said this, sahz reacted like that, light decided to do this, hope is chasing after her", that, my friends, you can see during the game XD unless you're oh so annoyed with such pretty graphics that you just decide to skip the cutscenes lol

stapps linked me to some site where aussies give the pros and cons of the games. i shall agree with this: i don't know how to feel about it though, the game is all about cutscene then some random battles, perhaps face a baddass boss, another cutscene and more battles

i wasn't bothered by this at all, it's like that in most final fantasies, at least ff7. only difference being, there's tons of side quests on ff7, and well, all you get in 13 is
Hidden:
the cieth stones missions and vanille's robot friend side quest
maybe there are more, and i just need to play again (which i'm already doing lol)

err there were a lot of things i was gonna say, but i just had lunch, i already forgot XD

When I moved my heater melted all of my PS1 Final Fantasy games. I cried. A lot. But the PS1 games are pretty cheap so it was ok Smile

But yes, the sidequests and mini games in ALL the games is why I play them all so much! It stretches out the game, lets you level up without just battling around (which I do love but it's always better to actually be getting somewhere in the game as well) I dunno, to me that just sounds like one major strike against FXIII. It's not going to stop me from buying it probably, but at least I know my favorite part is missing. That would be a bummer.

The later "extra" missions are very hard...challenging! I am just starting to get the hang of the Paradigms and how to actually battle... And I have to say it has boosted my rating of the game to about 7.0 - 7.5.

I haven't finished it but I know how it ends because of the XIII-2 trailer (DONT WATCH THE TRAILER IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED 13)...

So in the end depending on how it all goes down it could see an 8.0 to 8.5 (would be hard to get an 8.5 but it would be possible)...

This is just explaining a little about paradigms not a major spoiler more like a helpful hint.
Hidden:

A little note on Paradigm shifting, when you attack twice (gauge fills twice) if you shift pardigms (even if the two paradigms are the same, you ATB gauge fills automagically meaning you get to attack twice!
