Official Dragon Quest Thread
Yes, fear me for I am creating a thread for Dragon Quest, the original console RPG and considered by many to be a rival series to FF.
Anyways just discuss what you think about the games, try not to be biased because it's not FF. ( Not like FF is the best RPG series, Suikoden is ).
I for one like the games, DQVI is my current favorite and I can't wait for DQVIII to come out.

DQ is a rival series to FF?
I guess I got my info wrong then. I was under the impression that FF wasn't even close to DQ's level.

I only played the first three or four DQ games. The first one is boring - too much leveling with too little in-between. The second and third were better.

That's mostly because there's only DQ7 which was translated into the US.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
Anyway there's a DQ for ps, snes, gbc

The first 4 are on NES, I beat them all when I was 5/6. The fifth and sixth are on the SNES, and can only be obtained through emulation, the seventh is on the PSX.

1 - 3 are also on GameBoy now. Other than the PSX game, they're all called Dragon Warrior outside of Japan.

Actually the PSX game is called Dragon Warrior as well.
Only the eight game is called Dragon Quest outside of Japan.

Dragon Quest is one of the most popular rpgs out there especially in the old school generation.
Think of it as the Ultima of Console Rpgs.
It's light on graphics and yet it has alot of customization into it that it appeals to the hardcore of hardcore of console rpg fans who doesn't care much for non-3d graphics.
It's one of the proof why I voted for customization as the most important aspect of a rpg.
It's so popular in Japan that people pay homage to it by praying in their temples/shrines (I apologize for my lack of knowledge of Japanese culture to correctly phrase the actual method)
It's so popular that one of the monsters, a blue looking slime was turned into a ps1 controller.
Sadly because of very few games in the series translated into English, it's basically an unknown to a majority of people outside of the rpg community especially those without the internet.

Haha, cool! Though it looks kinda disturbing, with the controls being on the slime's bottom.

There's also a silver one from searching google.

Based off what I've read from the reviews, it's pretty comfortable for an oddly shaped controller.
