ok, i highly suggest ff7, and ff8. you might wanna skip ff9 and just wait for 12 to come out. not that 9 wasnt good, but there was nothing new that they ofered. story was... silly at best i think. and the system for learning abilities kinda pissed me off. lol

I'd recommend FFVII for sure! it is my favorite FF game and many others. FFIX wasnt the greatest however, but i'd buy FFVII for sure.

Only get FFVII, yeah a few people here seem to like FFVIII, however I would have to go with the huge amount of people who feel that 8 was a let down, it didnt even feel like a FF game imo.

really? i mean i know it was different, but think about it thise way. if they had ffx's story in ff8, it still would have been a let down. the fact that it had to follow ff7 made it a let down. i think thats the biggest reason.

Yes that is true, however FF8 felt like a military game, I was never really threatened at the danger in FF8, I felt like I was just playing something to kill time. In FF7 the characters and story was so real that I felt like it was actually happening and it was my job to save the world, FF8 just felt like any other game since it was so slow paced and predictable. That is cool if you guys like it and I have beaten the whole game and got all of the secrets and special items of the game, but I wouldnt go back to play it again for fun.

I'm going to disagree with everyone and tell you to first get ff8 then ff9 then ff7.
Reason why?
It was ff7 that caused alot of fans to not like ff8 so much because they compared the game to that and it wasn't.
And it was ff7 that disappointed alot of fans from appreciating ff9 because it revolved back into the more old school look of days.
Once you play ff7, you'll be disappointed with the graphics compared to ff8 or ff9 but you'll be amazed at the world around you. Everything is like made for the hands of the next gen mainstream rpg fan.
Then you can play ffx and ffx-2 and rant here how it sucks causing you to gain alot of gil for a short time
FF7 rocks! No other ff can touch it except ff6

I have to agree with Krutsiey. That would probably be the best thing to do. I love VII and it is my favourite of the series. I played them in the order they came out (VII and up that is) and as they went along i found myself losing interest. VII is brilliant for gameplay, story, character development(story wise) and character interaction. VII, after some time, starts to feel like your life. The characters actually start to feel like your family. You feel there losses are your losses just because the game is made that well.
VIII, IMO, was good because it went a different way. Though the story was a little linear and basic, it still had its twists. The side quests were quite good and the summons development system was, IMO, groundbreaking. Though the Limit Break system wasn't as good as VII, some of the limit breaks were really cool. There was a way to exploit the limit system to the point of insanity though. This method of exploitation rendering any boss completeley useless(i won't say anything for fear of spoilers). The characters were cool and the Gunblade(IMO) is one of the coolest and most original weapons i have seen. The music was realy cool, IMO, that is why i still play it.
IX, i liked it. It was a little simple but it was realy different. The characters were more...cutesy, meaning a true FF fan could get into it while having to babysit or watch the kids(lol). The character development was a little annoying(Star Ocean rip off if you ask me) but it was inivative in the FF series. The Limit system i can't even remember(i clocked this game once and didn't play it again) but i do remember it wasn't as good as VII. The story is....all right. Different once again. It is one of those 'Hero saves the damsal in distress' type scenarios that we have all seen before. The range in characters was cool though. By range i mean difference in race/abilitys/style of combat. The largest range i have seen in any FF game, to date( other than tactics maybe).
X, i didn't realy like. Sure it was graphicaly briliant and the music absoluteley ROCKED. I didn't like Tidus though. Worst lead character , IMO. I would rather Auron lead the party(though that would kill the story completeley). Limit system recoverd a little bit. Summon system makes a huge leap(though some of the summons were hideous). Character development(stat and ability wise) is groundbreaking. The node system is something i had never seen before X. There is a multitutde of side quests and the story is pretty cool. There was just something about the mixture of all these things that i didn't like. I think it may have been the light and happy vibe in the game atmosphere. I prefered the dark and cruel world feeling i got from VII. I am not denieing that this was a very good game all round. Personaly, i just didn't like it THAT much.
X-2. I don't think there are many true FF fans that would recommend you play this. It's allright but more or less just a money making ploy. X-2 adds to my dislike of X. Not that it was X's fault, i know that. Just that a game of that quality could produce such a....bad spinoff(ITS BASICALLY THE SAME GAME). I liked that there was no Tidus. Disliked that there was no Kimahri or Auron.

totaly agree with the above poster, but FFs VIII and X deserve a little bit more, and one should play them, as they are good games. (IMO)

They are all good games... but the ONE thing that I absolutley hated about ff 9 was the trance system... it was so stupid, i mean you rarely go tit when you actually needed it and the fact that you HAD to use it ruined the whole limit system.
