Most of the modern fighting games including SSBM.

Like in most good fighting games, there's always a way to beat button mashers but it doesn't necessarily mean, button mashing isn't encourage.

My point is, that a simple fighting system doesn't reduce button mashers, it increases it.

Have you not played SSBM?

its not too much more simplified. its just different than other fighters.

i do have to admit though, that i enjoyed the 2d fighters more than the 3d fighters. that 3rd element kinda did something to the game that made it worse in my eye.

I didn't say it was oversimplified. Just that there is rarely a fighting game where button mashing is discouraged and the more simple the lay out, the more easier it is to button mash.

For the Star Wars game when you pause the screen go to the moves list and there would be a list of moves for different characters depending on who you are and who weapon you got.
