I can't believe how much they're pricing it at in the UK £149.99, that's ridiculous! That's £50 more than the Lite, and it's even more expensive than the 360 arcade version! I could understand £120, that sounds reasonable, but £150 is taking the mick.
I'm sure it's just a test so they can see just how far they can push their luck with customers!

Its cheaper than the iphone though the DSi here is about $170 in america...though I have a DS lite already I might not get one unless I save the money or the price lowers...I prefer playing my gba games.

I honestly don't care about the DSi. It's not as if it's any better at playing DS games than a DS Lite and it doesn't have the GBA slot either. All I want from a console, either hand-held or other, is that it is able to play games. I don't care about internet connectivity or being able to listen to music. All the extras is like having a meal at the restaurant with a side dish of salad which no one really likes but will have it purely because they think it makes them superior to others in some strange way.

I feel like if they were going to make this this late into the current generation, that they would have been better off retooling it for the next gen. The next gen is only a max of 2 years off, and this feels like nothing more then a PSP that plays DS games.
Sales are not going to be good in America at all, nobody will be able to afford it, and nearly everybody already has a regular DS or a lite. I've personally had my DS since 2004 when it was released, and don't plan on getting a DSi unless it is given to me.
Nintendo really was not thinking with this one. They should have waited, the DS is already completely dominate in the hand held market. This is a very unnecessary move on their part.

I'd say it's pretty smart on their part to be honest, just ridiculously annoying for anyone that knows anything about video games.
Everyone loves Nintendo, the current wii and DS sales say it all and most people won't know any better when it comes to comparing the price. As long as it says Nintendo people will buy it... but even if they don't buy it then Nintendo can drop the price and say: "oo look how cheap this is, what great value for money!" and people will buy it then. So either way they're going to make a massive profit from it, maybe straight away and maybe a month later instead.
The majority of people who play games know nothing about them or the market. "Gamers" like us are only a small percentage of the market unfortunately.
Definately doesn't mean I'm going to go out and buy one though

No Thor, this gives you the ability to never purchase another game ever again. Basically, you buy the system and just go online to download stuff to the SD card.

i already modded my DS.
besides, if you think its going to be as easy as downloading ROMS and putting them on an SD card for your DSi. you will be sadly mistaken, as they will no doubt have many copy protections in place on that SD card slot.
still. its mostly the battery life that puts me off.

The main attraction is the camera on it. A friend of mine wants to get one, since EB is offering it for $175 AU when you trade in your current DS lite. I'm not interested in getting one since I don't see the point lol, sine all the 'extras' came standard with my psp 3 years ago lol

Yeah Thor, but if you already modded your regular DS, how hard could it possibly be to mod one that is already set up for you?
No matter how hard Sony tries, the PSP is still easily customized to do whatever you want. I doubt Nintendo is going to have any better luck with the DSi.
Either way, I plan on holding on to my original DS until some part of it gives out (probably gonna be the touch screen, it doesn't work quite right anymore). And if it dies, I'll probably just get a lite, or preferably another original, as they had much better sound.
Shorter battery life and the loss of the GBA slot really throws off appeal for me though. I really like being able to play my GBA games on my DS, and really enjoy not having to stick it on the charger every 4 hours.

No they didn't. Either that or there was a defect with every single original DS which came to the UK. The improvement in sound to me when I got a Lite after my original one died was obvious. I know it wasn't mine because the sound was exactly the same on my friends DSs as well. That's about six DSs with a worse sound-quality then the DS Lite.

I don't know about your DS's, but when I compared the sound quality and how loud it got to my friend's DS lite, mine was superior. Plus, I have never had a thing wrong with mine until the touchscreen problem I've been having recently.

Mine just wouldn't turn on, even after I charged it for a hour or so. I still think the DS Lite's better, both in visibility of the screen (although that might just be because of a brighter light setting and because my old DS screens were quite scratched) and in sound quality.

Revivig: I got a DSi today...there was a special for trading in my DS Lite (70 bucks off the original 170 dollar price) anyway here are my thoughts from the few minutes I've had it.
Pros:
-Its lighter and more compact which means it'll fit in more places
-The camera's are really good quality
-The menu is user friendly and very easy to use
-There's a voice recording function
-It connects to the internet faster
-There's a connection indicator light that shows your connectivity whether your connected to Wi-Fi or not.
-The screen is brighter and the sounds are clearer
Cons:
-the power button is on the main interface(though its easier to tell between it and the start button and you have to actually press it to turn off the DSi)
-The volume control isn't the traditional slider that works so well
-There is a parental control setting that has to be set with a password and you have to enter it everytime you want to access the internet or store
-You have to purchase the SD card seperate
-There's no voice chat function in pictochat
-you have to do an update to access the store(which is difficult with my connection)
These are just my first impressions of the DSi I'll update it when I have more play time with the system.
