New Computer Build (Buying)
So this is the computer I will be building. I have just purchased the Processor and will be buying all the other parts shortly:
CPU: i7 950 3.06 GHz D0 LGA 1366
CPU Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalem
MOBO: Asus Rampage III Forumla (USB 3.0 & SATA 6.0Gb/s)
RAM: GSkill Ripjaw 6GB (3x 2GB) DDR3 1600
Videocard: Saffire 5770 with Vapor-X technology (wanted the 5870 but it's $150 more)
Mouse: Microsoft Sidewinder X8
Power Supply: Antec 750W modular
HDD: doesn't matter most are cheap so I'm just throwing in one I have laying around
Keyboard: Want a MERC but will wait to see if I need it.
Case: Antec 900 v1
Cost: < $1000
How much better is it than my current PC (extreme amount better!)
Why the Asus Mobo? Going to overclock my CPU to 4.0Ghz if possible with the chip I get! Plus it has 7.1 or 5.1 surround sound card. Which lessnes the price a bit. It is a quality board!
I already have the Case, PS and mouse (so the cost is just the new prices!).
There you have it! I will be at ridiculous speeds and will be able to play games I bought off Steam but cannot play do to the * machine I use now.

Well my case (was $80 but now is like $130) power supply ($90) and mouse ($40) were not factored into the price of <$1000.
But you could swap out the Radeon 5770 for a Radeon 4870 (not as good but quite a good card.
Also radeon 6000 series is coming out so the 5000 series will drop in price.
Don't think the processors going to get too much lower than the price I am getting it at ($289)
and I get Win7 Pro for free so take that into consideration.

i usually stick to nVidia cards myself, like the way they display color and generally love their drivers much more.
also ATI is dead, the 6000 series will be under the AMD brand name. yes, they merged years ago, but they are finally erasing the ATi name...
but the system looks good, should be an awesome rig. been wanting to upgrade mine but dont see the point as all i really want is a new GPU that supports DX11 as the rest of my parts are still chugging along just fine.

Yeah too bad for the ATI name... nVidia drivers are usually better but The Radeon cards are so much more powerful. nevermind the most powerful ones are just 2 of the highest end single cards crammed into one card.
I'm all about the power even though I'm limiting myself to a 5770.

Well, I decided 6 GB was not enough so I bought 12GB for $150.
Everything else is the same! All the parts are here so tonight I will be building it.

Well if you save up I could spec out a low $$$ PC for you.
Check this out:
$500 dollars in April of this year means prices could have dropped for any of the items in the list. This is a gaming build too so it should run older games, but I don't think it'll be able to handle the newest games.
If you look around the net, people post builds like these or you can sometimes post of computer forums asking for a spec for a machine that will cost X dollars and what you intend on doing with it.
