New Battle System for Future FF
Propose your battle system here so we can review and exchange thoughts on the ideas! Here's what I made out through some day-dreaming by the beach...
WARNING:DO NOT ATTEMPT to read if you find this long, for your sanity and forumer liability purposes.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
| Card Slot Battle System |
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I'll start with the main battle system review, just like the old classic Final Fantasy series battle menu we have something like this:
[Defend] Attack [Change] ------------ (1)
Combo ------------ (2)
Card ------------ (3)
Item ------------ (4)
1. Attack Command
-------------------------
-Holding the Left D-pad button will enable Defend command, while holding Right D-Pad enables Change command.
-Attack command are divided into four types of attack
Triangle ---> Attack Type 1
Square ---> Attack Type 2
X ---> Attack Type 3
Circle ---> Special
-Each attack has their own % ratio of hitting, Triangle will normally have the highest % HIT ratio followed by Square, X and Circle with the lowers % HIT ratio.
-These % goes up if you successfully hit an opponent multiple times, so its really wise to start your attack with Triangle or Square, so you don't waste your turn missing your attack by using X or Circle starting.
-Usually the character will start hitting the opponent using Triangle before proceeding to Square, X and Circle. But note that the strength of each type of attacks varies too, Triangle deals low amount of damage, Square deals moderate amount of damage while X deals strong amount of damage. Circle are for special attacks like the limit break (only accessible if you've received sufficient amount of damage - Limit gauge), spells, etc.
-I'll explain more about the Circle type of attack as we go on.
-Example: Character (Squallpayne) who uses a gunblade will have these kinda attacks
Triangle - Front slash (92% HIT) - 1 ATB bar
Square - Side Slash (80% HIT) - 2 ATB bar
X - 360 degree turn slash (72% HIT) - 3 ATB bar
Circle - Special (66% HIT) - 4 ATB bar
-squallpayne are given a total of 4 ATB bar at lower levels, so you may choose wisely what type of attacks to perform during his turn...lets say we choose pattern of attacks like:
1st: Triangle with 92% HIT [used 1 ATB bar, remaining 3 ATB bars]
and if that attack is successful, squallpayne can continue performing his continuos combo until all ATB bars are used...lets continue
2nd: Triangle (99%)
Square (88%) -----> Lets use this for squallpayne's 2nd attack
X (79%)
Circle (71%)
Note that all the % increases because squallpayne has hit his opponent successfully, making it easier for him to target that specific opponent...so lets choose Square this time (which means we'll be using 2 ATB bar leaving with 1 ATB bar]....and if its successful the amount of damage will accumulate and total damage will be increased.
-Just remember that the character's turn will end automatically whenever he/she uses Circle type of attacks no matter how many ATB bars left, so Circle is normally used as the final attack before ending the turn.
-Circle attacks are based on cards junctioned onto the character.
-Each card (monster,item, or hero) carries a unique feature. There are cards which allow characters to cast black,blue,red,or white magic; limit breaks cards; summoning cards; or other abilities as well. I'll explain about the cards later.
2. Combo Command
-------------------------
-This feature allows 2 or more characters to perform special type of attacks just like in FFIX (Vivi and Steiner).

3. Card Command
-----------------------
-For this battle system, the cards are the key...just like materia for FFVII and spells for FFVIII. Each character will have their number of slots available for their Special Attack (Circle type of attack) and other supportive cards will be attached onto their available slots in Weapons or armors.
-Like I said before, each card carries a unique feature...for example:
Anacondaur ----> Weapon Slot [Gives 45% of poison target if hit successfully]
Behemoth ----> Character Slot [User can cast Barrier for his/her Circle special attack during battle]
Red Dragon ----> Character Slot [User can cast Flare for his/her Circle special attack during battle]
Glacial Eye ----> Armor Slot [Improves Def by 20]
Dark Matter ----> Character Slot [User can summon Odin]
Ryusoke ----> Character Slot (only squallpayne for eg.) [Enables Super Rough Divide limit]
and so on...
-For the Character Slot,usually we'll start of with only a few slots so the characters can junction enough basic spells, limit break, and other abilities.
-So for this battle system, its all about the Card - you buy or trade for Rare Cards so you can equip your characters with stronger spells and better stat improvements...though levelling up does most of the stat improving.
-So whenever the character wants to use a limit, he/she will be like taking out a card from his sleeve and slotting it onto this weapon or whatsoever before unleashing the power...pretty cool huh? Just the same when using Circle (Special attacks) during battle.
-Another thing about this card system is you can level up the card using APs attached onto your slot. Once a certain level is achieved there would be a secret recipe born from it, read the manual and you can combine a few cards to form other better cards! This only work for Cards with spell features...Example:
Bomb card (Maximum AP:30)>>Gives you Fire Manual>>Reading it will tell you to combine 1 Red Dragon Card,2 Mesmerize Cards & Fire Manual itself to form Ifrit Card!
4. Item Command
-----------------------
-Just like the other FFs...nothing new, just enables character to use items during battle.
WHAT YA THINK?

Very good, it combines the best of some battle systems I like (FFVI, Chrono Cross, Ragnarok) and with some new stuff.
I´d love to figure out how to do a thing like that on RPG Maker...
|
-25 Chocos caught and 6 defeated.
-Got any Funender RPG questions? Check here. Also look at Shandy's Chocobo FAQ if you´re planning on raising Chocobos ^^
-Try out this game! |

I should have taken this seriously, didn´t think it was THAT long XD
Anyway, nice ideas... I´d add to that a maximum card number to junction, which would be similar to the system of supportive abilities of FFIX, for example, you have a total of 25 "slots" (let´s call them slots like in Ragnarok lol) and depending on the ability the card gives, it uses a number of slots. A little example:
-Bite Bug Card - Gives +1% Max HP, uses 1 slot.
-Hexadragon Card - Gives +25% Max HP & Attack, uses 5 slots.
