My Oath

my oath:
"If i were to pirate a game, and it is available on steam, i will buy it on steam rather than pirate it"

its easy for me to uphold when i have a source of income.
but today, its a hard day.

Fallout 3 is going to come out on steam. a $50 game, i barely have enough money.

i was hoping to pirate it for a few months and then pick it up on sale for $30/$25 or something in like febuary.

but i cant resist that temptation that is steam.

for those of you who dont know, i am addicted to steam (valve's game store)
i think its the future of game purchases, and i love it to freaking death (no CD needed ever, install it on any computer you want, impossible to lose the game)

this would be easier to not do if the game has some insane copywright protection on it like Spore (3 installs and then you have to buy another copy of the game) but bethsida has said that Fallout 3 will have NO DRM on it at all.. something that i encourage.

all signs point towards get it.
so much for saving up money eh?

yeah it is coming to the PS3, i just wasn't paying attention.
i ended up buying it on steam.

i had previously gotten oblivion for the 360, and regretted it as the PC version got TONS of mods to it adding new content or derastically improving the visuals.

pretty much makes me glad to be a PC owner.

the game is in DirectX9 for some reason. it really is just using a slightly modified Oblivion engine, so it makes perfect sense for it to be on the PS3 (a good oblivion engine is already compatible with the PS3, so there's not too much work to be done.)

man im excited for this game.

Can anyone tell me what Fallout 3 is actually about. Ive never even played Fallout 1 or 2 and hadn't even heard of them until Fallout 3 was announced. All I know really is its made by the Oblivion creators and its another RPG.

imagine that the cold war ended differently, and the world was nuked to oblivion. the surface of the earth is a barren wasteland with mutants and small communities of life trying to make it in the radioactive terren.

you play a Vault Dweller, before the nukes launched your family escaped to a vault and hid in there with no communication with the outside. you were born there and the vault is all you know.

the plot is that your father, somehow escaped from the Vault, and you want to go and find him, so you leave the vault.

i was never very into Fallout 1 or Fallout 2, but i LOVED fallout tactics, that is a game that everyone should play at least once.

Tactics was hard!

the xbox1 game?
i dont think anyone counted that as a real fallout game.
it got like 3/10 or some awful rating.

but yah your vault-boy avi is awesome.
tactics was hard, but the UI and combat was so intricate and detailed that when i went to fallout 1 and 2 (tactics was my first fallout) that i just got frustrated at the lack of control it offered in combat.

i agree. looking back now, and even revisiting the game as i occasionally do, I'm left kinda bored with the combat system. a lot of pointless clicking in my opinion. but, being what the systems were, and what processors had to offer it wasn't that bad. I just hope they continue with the humor and Monty python references

if they dident have MP refrences plus tons of other comical refrences it wouldn't be fallout.

well from what ive seen from fallout 3 the combat can be done two different ways, the "point and click" way or the shooter way. which i think is a great idea. mixing things up.

and yeah, thats the one thing about pc games that will almost always be better when you compaire it to consoles, the dl content availible. though, burnout paradise is making a strong case with 3 huge patches for free that have changed the game a lot. and now ther have like 4 more planed from what i hear so... they are really putting everyone else to shame with dl content on consoles.

so i pre-ordered it.
no DRM+Steam made me decide to do the right thing and support the game legally.

oddly enough though, im only allowed to start downloading it tomorow at 10am...

crrraaappp.

means it might finish by 2pm if im lucky.
which means anyone who bought it in a store will play it before me.
its still worth it just being on steam. but a little disappointed at the time of launch.
