My Groom that Never Was
I have recently lost someone very close to me.
Someone who I have turned to for years and years for comfort, support and for love.
Someone who I was promised to be wed with when my vapor was blown through the wind, when my flower had faded, in a twinkling of an eye, like a thief come into the night.
I fear now that I am no longer to be a Bride of Christ...
For Christ...
Never existed.
The Romans were excellent at keeping records, and there is no record, not even a slight blip of Jesus.
Furthermore, as this link indicates, the story of Christ is so close to the story of Horus of the Egyptian religion that it is undeniable to me that the story of Jesus was a copy of it.
Is there anyone here that can think of a reason that it isn't so?
Is there anyone that can show that my groom is/was real?
Despite this I cannot doubt the Spirit of God. But this does officially sever me from Christianity and most of my final ties to the Bible. Leaving only a few teachings of morals here, some sayings about seeking knowledge there, and one that I will never lose, even if I lose faith in the existance of any Deity: Proverbs 7:4 "Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman"

i feel this would have been better suited in the religion category but its all good.
as for the tale that is christianity and christ, a lot of stories resemble it or the other way around. common themes pretty much.
i suspect when religions were just popping up on a daily basis, it was out of desperation and there wasnt the wide spread access to information we have no of course. even more so most couldnt read or write so whats to stop plagiarism back in the day?
anyway... stick to marrying real dudes.

I would have posted it there but... it would have been a double post.
In any case it was never to be a literal marriage. But... still. It is hard to let go of something that has been a part of me for so long. A being that I felt loved me so much...
Gah, that brought so much joy to my world, to my heart.
It is like when my parents finally told me that Santa Claus didn't exist except 10 million times worse.

first off yeah, the second i saw you posted in the religion thread too i figured it was the same post or at least something that lead to this topic.
anyway. heres how i see it.
perhaps its all a big story right? that doesnt mean that he isnt real, hes just not who you thought he was. he's still got your back for all intensive purposes so you can hold onto that.
and let me just apologize though, as sometimes i come off really... anti-religious maybe... but its not my intention as i do have an open mind. I simply believe that a lot of people need to have faith in something more and i get that, i just dont share that need and thus, some of my responses to religion may seem rather...
i dont even know... but im sure i come off some way that isnt good to a person thats religious.
p.s. santa is totally real.

I can believe in the story being inspired by the Spirit but I can't believe in Jesus anymore. I almost went through something like this with a Jesus/Hercules comparison.
But it just ended up making me imaging Jesus as being a hotter, stronger dude.
And T-Rex, you have never bothered me. You don't come across as anti-theistic, even though you are atheist. You just are, well, atheist, and your responses are what an atheist who believes what they say they believe would say.
But yeah... Pastafanarianism is looking more valid than Jesus right now to me. Just goes to show that it is dangerous to your emotional center to hang around logical based and intelligent people a lot.

Two words: rhetorical analysis.
I want you to read that document again and tell me what's wrong with it.

Hm everything is a comparison.
I mean every single thing on that page is a comparison.
No contrasting at all.
No admissions of difference at all.
But still, it is not enough anymore. That was only a small piece in the massive wave of things sent my way. Sadly, it was the only place besides the FSM site that I had linkage to.

I want you to print out that paper. Get out a highlighter and highlight all it's points. Then I want you to look at the points and tell me if any of them is solid evidence that Jesus was a copied story.

That is the single problem with religion, you can not prove that it ever actually happened. All you can do is believe it and make it out for what you think it is. Jesus may have been a real person who did great things for people, but was blown out of proportion just a little bit. The stories of Jesus may be completely spot on.
Throughout history, there have been many instances where historical documents and the like have been destroyed for political, religious, or other reasons. With all the alterations and new editions of the bible over the hundreds upon thousands of years of its existence, there is no real way to know what was originally written and how much it has changed.
Religions are similar, some are nearly identical when you get down to it. That then leads to the question: Were all of these "gods" from other religions and the bible its self all different interpretations of real happenings? There is too much mystery around religion as a whole to deny it because of lack of proof, but I'm agnostic because of just that. It is all how you choose to interpret it and what it is.

Jesus is not a religion, he was a real person.
And of course the romans never kept a record of him. Who in their right mind, at that time, would keep a record of some random guy they executed?

They did keep records. Of almost every single person they executed. He doesn't show up. And plus if there was truly a political baton-passing of a person to be executed, like the Bible suggests that there was when they wanted to execute Jesus, then that would have shown up in the very least.

Maybe there was a record but it got lost, that was a really long time ago stuff gets lost and/or destroyed over 2000 years quite easily. As Flarey says Jesus WAS a real person the dispute is wether he was the son of god, even the muslims recognise him as a prophet like mohammed but nobody can be sure either way

My main point is that you little "article" does nothing put present strawman arguements which only seems convincing to some.

The romans have documents of jesus. Hell, the JEWS have records of him, and they recorded EVERYTHING. The Hindus and pagans in the area of Galilee all have records of Jesus.
