my anti-drug
i remember a topic about this before but this is not a question.
i just saw one of their new ads and the idea was that if parents dont talk to their kids and tell them at drugs are bad then how will they know. i have a problem with this. I have a big problem with them. I never sat down and talked to my parents about drug use. we all go to school to learn the facts. i base all of my actions on either my own experience of facts, not other people opinions, even if they are my parnets opinions or even the popes opinions.
it pisses me off that the older generation puts down their kids for never knowning what to do or some crap unless they are there to guide them.
ugh. stupid tv

Fact is kids have far more respect for the information from their peers (even if its gross misinformation) than they have for that of their parents or older generations because their peer group is their world, its where they have to learn the rules for how to get on in the world and be successful. a lot of misunderstanding between parents and kids comes from the fact they have to survive in two different worlds even if the parents had the same experiences back when they were kids the kids environment isnt exactly the same they just see the parents as trying to control them or ruin what they see as fun cause of what their peers say.
Btw if any of this makes sense to you then youre smarter than me cos ive just read it back and ive lost myself. lol i know what i meant i just hope you do!

yeah. my parents lived in a completely different setting. now it was the same state, 40 some odd years ago and thats all the same, but technology chaged so much in such a little time that we (new younger generation) know more earlier than are parents did.
my parents constantly feel that with age comes wisdom and nothing could be farther from the truth. it is NOT hand in hand. there is a strong correlation, but it is person specific. you do not earn the right to even think you know more just bc you are older. oy. sends me in a rage.

Too true. im well aware that when it comes to certain things i know a hell of a lot less than my younger sibs usually pop culture mainly because i dont immerse myself in it as much. sad to say i hardly watch TV or read the news paper. havent a clue about bands outside of those i listen to etc.
But then i have more academic knowledge than them and what other life experiences that are unique to myself.
Whole problem with most of life is our mind were designed for a world that has long vanished and it hasnt caught up to the speed with which were changing it still. Hence we spend so much of our early lives learning to fit in which ties in to why we dont listen to our parents when it comes to choosing our livestyles

we all like to have security so we stick to what we know. thats why relating to older generations can be tough which in turn causes the hostility between different generations.

i think it's hard to connect with parents is because their lives overshadows over ours. we see from different perspectives. me, i'm more closer to my 6 sibs than my parents and grandma.

I used to think my mother didn't know a thing...still feel that way...but she did teach me right from wrong and then left me to make my own decisions. And I did...mostly wrong, but she always supported me and encouraged me to find things out for myself. "You'll find out." is what she always did. Yeh, she was a pain in the ass, but at least she always stood behind me.
