Ther best materias i can think of are doublr cut and knights of the round you need a golden chocobo for one if not both of them

The best combination of materia in my opinion is the Mime, Knights of the Round, Final Attack, Phoenix, W-Summon, and maybe some Ultimas with W-Magic+Mega all,etc.

i havent managed to get kotr yet but
Ultima...(from kid in coral after train incident),
Slash All...(from the ancient forest,after beating ultimate weapon),
Contain...(from a chocobo in mideel if you have certain greens on you,choose to scratch ear)
and lots of hp/mp ups work well and of course the final attack-phoenix combination (materia cave and mt condor)without which beating the weapons is rediculously hard
RUBY WEAPON
set up lots of protective magic and only attack when it's claws are buryed in the sand because;A) if you attack while it's claws are out of the sand it will do no damage and B) it will eject one of your party members if not 2 of them(usually leaving cloud on his lonesome)so wait .DO NOT USE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND OR IT WILL COUNTER WITH ULTIMA. Use all of you strongest attacks and keep yourself healed and protected and things should go resonably smoothly

ok first off, the best materia combo i can think of is probly,
Master summon + Quadra magic = cast any summon 4 times in a row 
allso ive heard this all over the net, havent confirmed the whole thing myself yet tho,
Beating Emerald Weapon
The theory goes that he has an attack that deals 1111 damage to each party member for each materia they have equipped (have tested this, turned out so), so you simply make sure each party member has 9999 hp and 2 materia equipped, make sure everyone stays healed up, and once he does it it will knock everone down to 7777, which legend has it causes your characters to go into some insane beserk type thing (havent tested this  ) that should take him out easily

use Ungarmax and or Omnislash then give them Mime then use your limit break then mime and emerald or ruby will die that is how I do it

first you must go to a sunken plain in the water where you can find emarald weopon when your in the sunken plain you must morph a ghost ship then you get some kind of book then you must go to some guy i think he was in kalm and give him the book and he will give you the underwater materia
i dont know if this is completly correct as i havent played this game for like a year so correct me if theres anything wrong

a monster called ghost ship lives in the tunnels inbetween junon and the underwater reactor you must find one and morph it into a guide book then take the guide book to a traveller who is indeed in kalm. in the rightmost house i think

Make sure that one of your materias is the Lucky 7 one (was that one a materia? XD) so in 7777 HP ANYTHING you do will deal 7777 damage (for example, Barret´s Ungarmax will deal 18 blows of 7777 damage each one ^^)

this is true but when you face emerald weapon you attacks should do more than 7777 anyway
if they dont youre probably too low a level
also he only has to attack again and the lucky 7s are destroyed

I didn't used Lucky 7 before, but why use 7777 damage when you can deal 9999 damage instead? Omnislash, Knights of the Round, mime, W-Summon, Mega All, those materia combinations are classic and pretty much owns everything.

Because dealing 7777 damage is way easier than training up to deal 9999 damage 
Besides, some Limit Breaks such as Highwind or Ungarmax are really hard to see dealing everytime 9999...

unfortunatly i wasnt quite high of a lvl, and equiping that much materia would alow him to onehitkill everyone in one sweeping blow.... and at the time i didnt have omnislash (CURSE YOU BATTLE AREA CRAP) so yea i didnt have much of a choice, it was that or die trying

Lol yeah really, imagine those playing the game for the first time....man I had hard time inside the Battle Arena cuz I didn't knew about the materia combo thingy. And I was struggling to get those BP for the battle arena, tch seems like the Chocobo racing is the easiest way to earn BPs (and that guy who'll exchange gils for BP near the entrance). ^^
