Maybe that's becaue he was a friend of Seifer, even if they were enemies and he was upset because he doesn't want people to talk about him in the past tense

but didnt he find out before seifer was 'executed' when they were talking about how the forest owls got tlking to cid and rinoa sed how much she liked seifer and that she left squall at the party to find him and squall is all like 'oh. ....'
