Job system
I've been thinking of how to implement a good job system into a game with the characters having well-developed personalities and characteristics. After all, we don't want Mr. Macho being a weak healer, right? So here's what I thought: HAVE VARIABLE JOBS. In other words, have a few basic jobs which bend to fit the characteristics and personalities of the characters.
Example of two people: Ms. Aggressive and Mr. Tame
Jobs: Fighter, Healer, Spellcaster
Ms. Aggressive: Gladiator (high attack), Paladin, Black Mage
Mr. Tame: Defender, Cleric (high healing power), White Mage (can use offensive spells, but mostly healing spells)
We can expand on these ideas...to fit almost any storyline. We can even have different races, with completely different abilities.

It's a job system with basic jobs that change to fit the personalities of the characters. Yeah, it's weird. But it might help keep a job system while also having a good story, and having the battle and story be intertwined.

FFV only had a few stat differences between characters to make them different. I'm saying the JOBS themselves should change according to the character.

Ohhh... I understand it now...
That would do. Or just making you choose, but with high difference in basic stats, in order to make you think twice... hehe

No... I get your point, Xeta, and it is a good idea itself. For example, take FFIX. Think of Zidane as a thief; you could make him a Paladin, a Ninja, a Samurai or something else, because of his qualities as a character; for example, you wouldn´t make Zidane a Berserker, since he is calm

Yeah...that's my second idea, which came to me a few days after the first post...to just have different jobs for different people. I like that idea better, because it works better and has more variety....

They took one step towards it with FFTA...but that didn't have jobs based on character personality, but rather RACE.
But it WAS a good start.

They should make a mainstream FF that's like that game...one where you can move your characters around while fighting. It's very interesting for gameplay....
All they have to do is GREATLY improve the storyline, and kinda improve the characters so that they have personalities. Now THAT would be cool.
