judging from experience and history. its safe to say that it will be buggier than crap.
fortunately it can go online and get software updates. so the software can be patched.
but that leaves hardware bugs. which there will be MANY of.. im taking thousands of bugs here..
ok not thousands, but plenty.
mainly because:
1: Blu-Ray is 100% new
2: the Cell is 100% new hardware
3: Sony hasent proven that they can make a competitant online service. and will most likely be plagued with poor connection speeds and crashing problems.
4: the PS2 and PSP launch consoles were plagued with problems.
5: the PS3 is about 300x more complex than the PS2 and the PSP.
6: many hardware components are built right into the console. such as WiFi and can go bad (believe me, they can go bad)
7: it has a Linux OS. and while a Linux OS is awesome and extremely stable. you will find that new features brought to the PS3 will start out with VERY poor preformance and have many bugs.
it wont be as bad as i make it out to be, but the launch consoles will most definately be dead in a year.
i recommend waiting a year before buying one. at least until they get the Cell on a 60nm chipset to reduce power and increase stability.

probably, because after they fix the bugs and the people who would have bought the ps3 first came to buy a new 1 they would probably be wary of choosing another ps3 becuse of the bugs that still may exist but i might be wrong.

yes it is alot more.
its not as much as PC's though, but it is alot.
but more wattage doesnt mean more errors, it means more heat, and consitering how the "Power brick" for the PS3 is inside the case, the console could have some overheating issues.
but its entirely possible for it to not. it just depends on how it is done.

Yup it sure is there are some things that you cannot predict unless they are working in a real environment.

just as importantly is seeing how console manufacturing goes.
the 360 had practically no bugs at launch, but there were some hardware issues, these problems weren't in pre-release consoles to developers because the problem only appeared when it was mass-produced.
the mass-produced part is where the PS3 i believe will have a majority of its problems. generally new technology has some really, really buggy launches, and the PS3 has a TON of new hardware in it, all of which could go bad.
but that problem wont be known until launch.
theres no doubt in my mind that at Sony they have QA to test the console for bugs. but you cant really have QA for launch consoles very effectively.
