Same question as cable. You should just be able to make a bootable disk. Make sure you have the Boot sequence set up in your bios properly. (Just google it if that doesn't make sense. I assume you know that much though.) XD
Also how far in the boot does it get cos it is most probably repairable if you know what to do.
A fresh install of either XP or Linux would probably be better though.. XD
Though seriously if Im out walking around in the night to ASDA with the pedo/rapist/murderer/psycho of questionable sanity vampy....who do I have to be afraid of? XD

basically, it does everything up to the point when the magical screen that WOULD say Windows XP shows up. It just turns black, though.
I asked my dad about it since he's had experience with fried computers before and he told me that it was a problem in the operating system or the boot-up system (based on where the computer gives up). So it wouldn't work.

the screen that lets me do safe mode is what pops up before it crashes.
but yeah, safe mode doesn't work.
we got the computer online with xp already on it, so we don't have any of the disks for it.
It's just gone.
I would just make a Linux boot disk then. Since you and your dad don't seem to be most computer savvy and I assume there is nothing on there you want saving. I suggest formatting the drive and doing a fresh install or Linux (Or XP if you download a boot disk). XD

Well, we did look online for ways to fix the problem. It seems that if i took it in to a professional, people with my problem only have about a 5% chance of not losing all of their stuff. There was stuff on that computer i would like to have back, but i just kind of accept that it's all lost now. It was hard at first, but i dealt with it. it was only around for about 4 months before it crashed, so most of my important stuff is still on the ME. There were a few things though...

I don't know what you found online. But I think it's weird you found that only 5% cant save their stuff from a boot failure. Without knowing what the real problem is. It might be a simple fix. Has happened to me many times. XD Unless you know something you didn't tell us. XD
Even if it wont boot. You might be able to put the HDD into your working computer and save the stuff from it assuming the data isn't corrupt and it is just the boot sector. Just make sure you don't spread the virus'.
But yeah it does suck to lose stuff. But if that's your only option, I'm sure it is better to have the computer running again at least.

it's a 5% thing because there's different kinds of viruses. Most of them wipe out everything on your computer.
But again, that was like.... over a year ago. I have my windows 7 and i love it dearly. So there's not really a point besides.... selling it. or using it for games? I dunno, there's just not really a point.

yeah, my dad does that too. When the XP crashed and i had to use the downstairs computer for awhile, i kept getting aggravated at the amount of crap on the computer he never uses. so much clutter. -_-
