If you ruled the world...
What realistic and reasonable changes would you make to better the world? To me I wonder why it is so hard to switch to another earth friendly fuel alternative. Back in the 80's - 90's when there was a problem with cutting down trees we jumped right on the solution with recycling. Now it seems like when there is a problem it just gets ignored until the worst scenario happens. I would think it would be reasonable to switch to another source of fuel so they can drop the price of gas. Now when I go out in the city at night I am the only car on the road since not many people can afford "joy riding gas".

Being an engineer, I would start to seriously enforce the use of zero-emission cars. They can be made and should be made in mass numbers. (One thing that really annoys me is how all the gas companies are pushing for hydrogen to be the next 'fuel' for cars. Yes it is theoretically clean in that the pollution is not harmful to the environment but it will cost too much money, so spending money and time on it now for it to be made commercially is useless.)
Having a battery powered car could mean you pay nothing to run it, providing you have 'green energy' (which can be done now) by either having your power supply coming from wind energy or solar power from your on roof.
Sorry to bore you with that but it really would be important to stop using fuel asap because the damage done to the earth is exponentially growing.
I would also help fun this new company called Tesla, who have made an electric car which can rocket 0-100km/h in 4 seconds lol. Which is supercar fast.
Ther are many problems in the world that probably need addressing before all of that but I'm not really qualified in any other area ^^"

I would take the money being used to fund case studies that come up with results that everyone knows because its obvious and put it to fund schools and making a safe way to get non-ionized hydrogen into cars without mixing it into oxygen, as well as making solar power more efficient but I would also make sure that they were looking for ways to cure diseases like AIDS and Cancer and other things as well as education people on the dangers of thinking they are better than the earth.

well just to give some facts on solar power, we would be using it a lot more if we could find a way to use the energy more efficiently, which requires using different materials. as it is the solar panels now a days are converting the suns energy and using only like 18% and the rest just bounces back. so as it is its costing more to make them than the energy you get.
once they can up that percentage we are gonna see a huge rise in solar power.
personally, and ive said this before on here, id change the schooling system to minimize high school and bring college to kids sooner. thus you are picking class you want to be in. more or less having people specialize more as opposed to doing everything. i feel this would create more jobs, up the economy. the only problem is those people in the world that have no drive.
id have to really polish the system down to get it to go smoothly but yeah i think it could work.
also, id get rid of mondays. lol.
p.s. fun, your recycling comment reminded me of something cool i reead this morning: http://www.smartplanet.com/news/business/10000206/xerox-develops-disappearing-ink-to-save-paper.htm
a summary: its about disappearing ink on paper (the paper is coated with chemicals to make the ink vanish in about 16 hours. and up to over 100 times reusable. how great is that for trees and thus the planet.)

First thing i'd tackle would be Health care for everyone, as long as your a citizen. also, i'd push for reform to stabilize hospital costs. 60 bucks for an IV is crazy when it only takes 60 cents to make. also i'd reform the IRS, raise taxes on EVERYTHING, and doing away with returns. also, no more taxes being taken out of your salary. (Huckabee has a similar plan) those are just a few of the things i'd like to see changed.

one thing i hear about everyday that drives me crazy is people coming from over seas or whatever to have their children born in the us for free! and then they go home and their kid is a us citizen. and they get away with it. they just vanish and years later the kids come back with a clean slate. i mean its the parents trying to work the system and i get that. some people are in need, but the amount that i see and hear about daily (my mom works in the maternity department in our local hospital) its just ridiculous the numbers. and we have a small hospital. god only knows how much it goes on in larger ones. id do something about that too.

That sounds similar to our health system... People from the coutnries that are next to us come and take all the available turns, and you arenīt allowed to do anything to them since itīs considered discrimination (so outsiders get a better treatment than we do, regarding health attention).
As for the main topic: Thatīs a good question, but I guess ecology-related stuff at first (stop using petrol, lower the CO2 gas emission, etc), whatever can be done regarding that is the main priority.
I guess a good step that can be taken for that is to stop deforestation, so we have more oxygen available to breathe.

might be great if we could live like in star trek (i believe...im no big fan but i remeber them mentioning this..) where money does not exist, instead people work to better eachother and humanity...creating a better life for everyone.
EDIT - iv only just noticed Funender's thread about pretty much the same thing lol

Yeah, thats why in some countries you get sham marriages- just to get the passport. It was a big thing when I was in Hong Kong, before they passed some regulations, since loads of Mainland Chinese people crowded in just to get their child born there so they'd get the ID card. Then they started clamping down on those people, which kinda helped. But its not just there I guess.

Yes, if you get caught. Otherwise you get a passport >.<. Which is really bad I think.
