Update: I'm at 27 hours, I'm about 1/3 of the way through the game, according to the guide. I've hit every rare game and every hunt that is currently available. The story is lacking, still to inlvolved in politics, no apparent love story, no apparent "sinister world destroying evildoer," I have to agree with FuN about the cutscenes, they are getting rather... apparent... Still enjoying the game very much so. I think because FFX destroyed all of my expectations for squarenix I didn't put this game on that high pedastal I normally would have and now it's living up to my expectations and entertaining me.
