After checking through gameshark, Demon gate's lvl is 45. Hope that helps, oh and its no good using Gravity or Poison spells.
Just level up abit and that'll do, gap of 6 or 5 levels should be fine.

I think I was level 29 when I beat it the first time. Just have a decent supply of hi-potions and attack. I used Cloud, Aeris and Barret. Only cloud on he front row. Just attack and heal when needed. Aeris' first limit break helps a bunch with healing the all party attacks. I beat it in a fairly low level NMIENA a couple of days ago, tough, but good battle (my party was level 22 or 23)

When I fought him, it seemed to me that physical attacks done more damage to him than Magic attacks, I used Aerith to keep my party healed and physical attacked the wall with my other characters. I got through this monster on my third try, I was around level 35 with each character.
