Hey Kuru, I am coming back to this topic to say that this game is getting a lot better :D It is beginning to feel like an FF game. Usually the FF games in the past started out at the point I am at now, so I am having fun. I agree with Stappy, the Retry feature is an actual improvement over all of the other FF games. I cannot count how many times I spent a long time leveling up thinking it would be impossible for me to die only to lose all of the data and have to start over from the last save point in previous FF games :P

Are you using the Auto-Battle command? Or are you manually imputing commands?

I for one found that the Auto-Battle command kills the fun of the combat system that's in place. You can go into the settings and make the cursor default to the abilities option, so you're not just mashing the Auto-Battle command, and are instead choosing which skills to use dependent on the situation and how much ATB they each take. It makes the game harder, but a lot more interesting. Especially when you start getting the paradigm stuff down, switching between classes so often and having to pick and choose abilities, while the battle continues on. It really adds some fast paced action to it.

My problem so far is that it's a really action based system, but it prevents the player from directly controlling the character. I've found myself, on multiple occasions, trying to walk towards or away from an enemy, which I can't do, and instead end up scrolling through the menu options really fast. :lol

That and some of the enemies are just like... =/ C'mon Square, why didn't you just make this punk a boss? He's more than hard enough to be one... I remember particularly the flying motorcycle dudes that you fight as Snow and Hope have an ability that will blatantly kill a party member unless they direct it at Snow while he's defending... and, of course if they shoot it at him and he's not defending it's game over, because you were controlling him.....

That's what really gets me, there are a lot of RPGs out there that do that and I have never heard any gamer say that they enjoy it. Seriously Square, if you're going to rip crap from other RPGs make it the GOOD stuff.... not the extremely irritating stuff. They tried to compensate for it with the retry function but... honestly I would have preferred it the way 12 did it. You know, with the whole, when you die you take control of someone else, if everyone dies it's game over, and you load your data like in every other FF...


Holy crap... did I just say that 12 did something right!?

Edit: I found a little nugget of information that nobody else (to my knowledge) has posted. I'm sure some of you know this but I never saw any of the tutorials mention it. If you're like me and use the abilities command to manually input your attacks, you can hold right on the D-Pad to change the abilities command to a command labeled "Repeat". It works just like it sounds, press the repeat command to repeat the last string of attacks that you did. You can even choose a new target for the string of attacks. Really handy when you're sick of hitting attack, attack, attack, attack every turn... XD

Didn't know that repeat thing, cool.

I just realised that the voice actor for Lightning is the same voice actor for Liara in Mass Effect! lol I just noticed it when i played both game today and imdb confirmed it.

Wow, this has really evolved into an excellent game. I may have to place it third on my fav FF list next to FFX and the all time best game ever - FFVII. The reason for the boost in likability is due to the huge Pulse area that is just amazing. So near the end of the game will I be able to travel back to previous areas, or will I just be stuck in the last area and can only level up there? I tried doing some searching and I assume that you cannot travel back. If so that is a huge downer, as the best part of all FF games is being able to pick on the weaker enemies that used to kick your butt when you were at a lower level.

EDIT

Yeah I plan to buy this game and delete my current save and start from scratch :) I heard that Chapter 11 takes many hours to complete, so that should be worth the 60 price alone.

You can travel anywhere you go in the last 3 chapters, that includes all of pulse. There are some extra areas which are inaccessible at first on Pulse.

I really like the game, the plot and the battle system the only issue i have is the tendency for the character you're controlling to get killed in one or two hits by bosses. it took me many retries before i worked out how to avoid this when barthandelus uses destrudo. and my current struggles against alexander usually end with me nearly getting him and then he walks over and continually attacks hope until he dies (which doesn't take much im sure you all know)

I've literally just beaten the game and watched the ending after Lightning and Fang went completely psycho on the last bosses (depleted a grand total of 15,397,500 hp in under 10 minutes).

Naturally, I got the Superstar trophy (5 star on final form). I've got about 25 hunts to do still as far as extras go. You may have noticed there hasn't been much Leona Lewis in the game at all. The only occurance is [spoil]part of the ending[/spoil]

Wait a minute you guys were playing without the repeat! OMFG that must have been tough! I know for some fights where it's, if I don't stagger this guy in the next couple attacks... BLARGH!

I think it explains repeat in a tutorial in the game. Kind like auto-battle but you get to decide which moves are being done.

Which reminds me. I wish auto-battle would realise that the enemies have been preemptively stricken? and do a blitz or a area of effect attack!

But as Fun said it is getting better and better.

over 90 hrs in and i have 6 hunts left to do, 1 rank B (gigantuar- like a giant cactuar who insists on doing 10,000 needled every 2 seconds) and 5 rank As. I've just completed the Titan's trials.

Just checked trophies, on 60% now.
