I just rented this game for the 360
I had no plans at all for renting this game. I was looking for a movie to rent and saw that there was only one FF13 game left on the shelf so I decided to grab it. I see negative points made in a lot of user reviews, so it is good that I try a rental before buying. If I am not too busy I may post a detailed review after I am far into the game as I heard that it takes about 15 hours for the game to evolve.
EDIT
I already placed an order to buy this game. It really gets good when you get to Chapter 11.

Hell if i heard the game was crap, played the game for a bit, decided it WAS crap, i would still buy it and finish it because its final fantasy like allt he other fanboys/girls here XD

15 hours? well that's better than taking 11 hours to complete a game with a weak story line -.- i wish i could rent it XD but i don't have 360 or ps3 -.- stappy said the game was too linear...? yes but *shrug* like arc, i'll end up buying the game no matter what anyone says XD

well i found ff12 pretty linear with only one fun sidequest which was the hunting thing.. then again im not too much of a fan of ff12 XD

I am not sure if I would be able to post a review since I keep getting emails from clients on a site where I do a lot of programming and it is preventing me from getting a feel for the universe. One thing I noticed so far is that this is the first game where the text is too small. I have to pause and stare for a few seconds to make out what everything says.

that might just be cause of the resolution, I dont have that problem though. Yes boys and girls, i bought it earlier today from Game at the low low price of £19.99 and i got rid of Uncharted 2 in the same transaction. Bonus XD (game had a trade in deal thats why it was cheap)
so far my verdict is...AWESOME, so much better than 12 at any rate, I'll keep you posted =D

I've got it for 360 too. I'm currently 7 and a half hours in but yes the game is still evolving. I mean I am still getting tutorials on newer battle techniques lol. Atm I am liking it, because the characters are very likeable, and the battle mode is very simple, and the story seems to be panning out nicely.
A great option is the 'retry' feature. If you get the feeling you are about to lose a battle, you can pause and hit retry and the game takes you back to the world just in front of the enemies, so you can confront them again, or level up your character etc. I've also noticed that if you get killed, and hit retry, the game gives you extra buffs to use in the next battle so you have a slightly easier time.
I haven't read any bad reviews of the game so far, every review from major sites gives the game about an 8.5/10.

Yeah I managed to get about three hours in. I still think it is too early for me to give a review. One thing is that I do not like how the whole screen suddenly zooms into a staggered enemy in one jerky frame motion. No one else has a problem with the really small text in the colorful background that is hard to read? Usually the text is too large, this time I have to sit up and see it and as far as I know my vision is 20/20. The story is getting better though, and this game seems like a blend between FF12 and FF10.
I guess the FF2 - FF8 style is gone forever where you are free roaming. SE makes the excuse that the hardware cannot handle it, well just use a static background then like you did with all of the other FF games. Fallout 3 can pull it off, so can they.

Yeah I agree about not being able to make your own party. Also how you regain your HP after a battle kinda removes the challenge of using certain items and spells for when you really need them. This game is not bad, but it is not addictive where I could play for 10 hours straight. I feel like I am just pressing the action button and watching the camera jerk around the screen, just to wait for a long cutscene to appear every three minutes.

You get to choose your own party towards the end of chapter 9. I think it was in an effort to make you use everyone. There are still some battles where specific parties will be forced upon you, but its not the norm.
I'm currently on ch. 11 now and it's really opened up some. I don't think there will be a true world map in this game.
