I hate doctors
So i'm about 3 hours away from home. As most of you know, i recently hurt myself, which means i've gotten to deal with doctors all on my own for the first time. And while i'm doing an alright job, well.... it'll be easier to explain the whole story.
So 2 days after i hurt my knee, i go into the doctor's office. He's a knee doctor named Dr. Newcomer. He puts me in a fancy brace and tells me what's wrong with my knee about 70 times even though i understood him the first time. And i notice that he's very quick to act. Like... he doesn't seem to really think things through or ask me about what i want. he just pushes one idea onto me (and of course, it's expensive). I let it pass on day one and i call my parents to report to them. I told them i don't trust my doctor, but they told me to chill. 2 days after that, i go and get an MRI of my leg. we are now on 4 days after the incident happened. I looked online and apparently, it's advised that you don't get your leg looked at until after the first 10 days because that way, they can better tell what the leg is up to. When the injury is still fresh, your knee looks like a giant mess regardless of whether it's healing well or not.
Anyways. So i get the MRI done and they hand me a disk with all the pictures on it. I asked them if i just bring it to the doctor's office and they said no. Apparently, all they need to do is send in a report because they analyse the results there (because they're experts). They're giving me the pictures because... well.... they're mine.
A week or so goes by and we arrive at this past wednesday when i had a follow up. I entered the doctor's office and was asked right away if i brought the CD from the MRI. I told them no, because i was told i didn't need to. He said that he DID need it, so we sent my cousin Corina (who drove me) to fetch the CD. After she came back and we sat in a room for all of 5 minutes, Dr. Newcomer shows up. And this is the story (emphasis on STORY) he gave me:
The MRI experts said everything was hunky-dory and that after a few weeks of rest, my knee would be as good as new. But Dr. Newcomer disagreed with the MRI people because he saw something near my joint that could be a loose body (broken off bone or cartilage that could lock up my knee if it gets into the joint). He told me that it's a serious problem and that i'm lucky that he was there to catch it. Basically, he played up the "I am your Savior" idea. His suggestion was to make a 2 inch cut and get the thing out. And,while he's in there, reconnect some tissue that separated because it might not heal correctly (long story short, my muscles are pushing my patella away from where it needs to be and it may not heal in the right place). And then he wanted to follow that up with rehab to help me learn to walk again. that would last a week (the week of spring break, actually, when saki would be here).
So now i'm staring down the road of having 2 surgeries and needing some more time off of school (though the full recovery time would be the same, i'd need to stay off my leg for longer). Not only that, but possibly messing up plans with Saki who is spending money to come back to the states to hang out with me and the others. And since she's going to be spending the most amount of time with me, it's not a great thing to be forced to sit down and be inactive.
but i'm not too keen on the doctor. like i said, he seemed to jump to his own conclusions and press on me that it's the only option. So i explain it to my parents and my dad, who messed up his knee in a car accident last year, was going to the knee doctor soon (yesterday). So while he's there, he asks HIS doctor to give a second opinion (his name is Dr. Cox). My mom found Dr. Cox through a surgeon that she cuts he hair of, so it's a guy that other doctors trust. And what did doctor Cox say, you ask?
Apparently the first thing my dad was asked was when the 2nd MRI was going to happen. My dad said there wasn't going to be one and asked why he would even say that. turn out that Dr. Newcomer lied to me. The report from the MRI place DIDN'T say everything was fine, it said that there's something floating around in my knee and i need a 2nd MRI asap on that specific area to determine what it is and if it'll need surgery. AKA, everything is NOT hunky-dory. Dr. cox also said that he didn't need the MRI pictures because QUOTE "We're not the experts. They send us a detailed report and we decide how to treat in injury based on that."
In short, Dr. Newcomer had NO PLACE looking at my MRI and making judgments based on it. but he was about to slice my leg up because he thought it was the right thing to do.
And at the end of the day, that just leaves me with a busted leg and a mom who's still freaking out because i haven't been going to class which is a waste of money. -_-
So i guess what i'm saying is.... who wants to help me kill my doctor?

well, if the issue is serious enough and if he's pulled this on other people, he could very well have a malpractice suite against him. Otherwise, i shall just run around, slandering his name and keeping him from having patients in the future. ^^
