I FINALLY GOT THE WII!
last Sunday i heard a rumor that Best buy would have a wii shipment in. i went down about an hour and a half early to wait for it to open on the off chance that they would get some.
turns out i wasnet the only one to hear about the rumor, i was 38th in line.
thankfully they had 40 in stock.
SO I GOT A WII! only a week after it launched!
after playing it for two days (nearly) straight i can say this: Better than Xbox 360 definately. the graphics arent nearly as bad is everyone is saying. it has about twice the graphical power of the original Xbox. load times are non-existant, the aiming is a little weird, they use UV light to tell the controller where the TV is (not the other way around) so if you are in a very bright room you will have aiming problems.
the games i picked up were: Zelda Twilight Princess (duh) and Super Monkey ball (i picked this up because it has 50 minigames that really give you new ways to use the controller. awesome for parties!)
also, if anyone is thinking of getting the Wii, i highly recommend getting a rubber grip for the wiimote, this will keep it from slipping if your hands get sweaty and can potentially save your TV from having a wiimote fly through it.
now also keep in mind that i said it has better graphics than the original xbox.. and this is with the standard AV cable that comes with it (as in 480i)
the very cool thing is that all games support widescreen resolutions, which is very VERY good as i would probably hate the console if it dident.
all in all.. i give the console a 9/10 the graphics aren't ugly and still look good, the game play is unbeatable, and the price makes everything just sweeter.
to anyone who still wants a Wii this holiday:
i heard that Wall mart is having another shipment in on December 3rd, i would find out when your local wall mart opens and then get there 2 to 2.5 hours earlier and you should be able to nab one.

If anyone has any questions on the Wii, like how big it is in comparison to something just post it and ill do it.

where the hell are the component cables? i desperately need one. i might have to replay zelda again to see it in its high-def (ok ED-Def) glory again by the time i can get some.

Yeah that looks very small. But is is smaller than the slimline PS2?
I really don't know if I should get a Wii. I'd like one but it would kinda seem like a waste, and as if I'd be buying it out of boredom lol. Well, there's still a week until it comes out here.

its definately smaller than the slimline PS2, i'd say by about 25% volume.. which isint too much, but since i dont own one, and the only one i can get to is at work, and im NOT bringing my wii into work, i cant really get a comparison screenshot.
the TV is also brand new.. i'm starting to love it since the annoying noise it made went away.
few interesting tidbits:
-the blue light on the disc tray is freaking awesome
-it does have a fan in the back, but it is EXTREMELY hard to hear, your head has to be right next to the console to hear, and that should be expected from any console.
-it doesnt get hot, after leaving it on all day it still felt about room temperature (i could notice it was a little warm, but only slightly, nothing that would cause concern)
-The wiimote will automaticly connect to the wii when you press A. this is good and bad, the good is that is fast to just pick up the wiimote and start playing right away, the bad is that it could have conflicts if it is in the vicinity of another wii (havent tested)
-the motion sensing is dead-on, the aiming is also dead-on... but only in games, im having problems with the Wii menu aimer spazzing out. hopefully a patch should fix this.
-the wifi while wireless G, doesnt have a full Wireless G range as some other PC devices will. it has about 75%-85% of the range of the wireless. might be done to cut down power usage and heat. not entirely sure why.
-the nunchuck is about a hair-second off, the wiimote is slightly more responsive, its nothing that will disrupt gameplay, but im trying to note everything
-it has a total of 3 cables coming out of the back of the console. and while 3 sounds standard, it takes up about half of the space on the back of the wii for those cables.
-the aimer is still good to aim even if you are to the side of the TV.
-the wrist strap on the wiimote has a slider, so it can fit snugly on your wrist. this is important because that $1.00 strap can save your $1500 TV.
-the graphics arent as bad as everyone is complaining about. they have about the same quality as XBLArcade games.
-while it has blu-tooth, it doesnt seem to work with anything else that has blu-tooth.
-the wiimote is basicly a handheld console without a screen, the guy has its own processor, memory, and ram. it does all the motion sensing calculations and sends the data to the wii. thats how such a 'weak' console can do so much. (its also why the controller and nunchuck cost so much)
-the nunchuck works by telling its position to the wiimote, which uses this data for processing and sends the data to the wii console.
-the Nunchuck is a little light, but feels about right for its usage. the Wiimote has a good solid feel to it that makes it feel powerful and usefull without being too heavy for tons of arm swinging.
-THE VIBRATION ROCKS! for example, when typing in information on the screen, you have to aim at a keyboard on the TV to enter characters. and whenever the curser leaves one key to go to anther, it will vibrate softly and shortly, its hard to describe, but it does aid in hitting the right keys as you can tell when you went too far.
-Mii's are awesome, unfortunately only Wiisports seems to use them. cant wait to see them used in other games. also i wish there were more mustaches for your Mii.
-Wii shop doesn't have anything really good on it.
-You can still use your Gamecube controller on the Wii, you can even use your Wavebird on the wii. infact the Wavebird is prefered for many of the VC games you can get.
-Accessories at this point in time, are even harder to find than the Wii.
-Downloading patches for the Wii takes forever.

what are VC games?
(I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean vietcong games XD )
and it starts to sounds realy good...
just a question: which do you think is better? the xbox 360 or the wii?
i know you have both right?
and the fact you can still put gamecube controllers is good ^_^
i have the gamecube with 2 controllers, and if we'll ever get the wii we can use them for games like super smash brothers brawl (Coming next years fall!)

man thats a hard question...
if you can only get one... then 360...
but then again the wii is just as fun..
arg.
I recommend the Wii60.
VC stands for Virtual Console.. its the Downloadable games from Nes, Snes, Genesis, N64 games you can buy and use on your Wii.
i still cant believe im playing zelda.. its like a dream come true.
i never want it to end because i know that as soon as its over, ill have to wait 4 years for another Zelda game.
maybe when im done, ill replay it through with as few hearts as possible. 3 is a bit extreme, but maybe i just wont pick up boss hearts and only get heart containers. (OH by the way, in Zelda Twilight Princess, it is now 5 heart containers for an additional heart.)

wont be available. its available on sunday though.
find out how many a local store will have in stock, if they require a bundle, and what time they will open.
also remember to get there at MINIMUM 1:30hours earlier. as they will hand out vouchers at 1:00 hour earlier.
a good time to show is maybe 2 hours early
