I am playing Burnout Revenge now
Ok just got the game and have been playing it for about 20 minutes now. I really like the presentation of burnout 3 and this version has an even better presentation. Even the reward and stat screen is cool. I also like that they added a cool electronica type music tracks as well, which I felt that burnout 3 was missing since it was limited to all rock and alternative music.
You start out with better cars this time around, and they added a new mode where you get to just ram into other cars on the right side of the road. I really didn't have much fun with that mode, since all you had to do was zigzag and daydream and ram into the 8000 cars on the street to gain points.
So far my only minor problem is that the cars feel a lot more heavier now, you know how in Burnout 3 when you rammed a car into a wall he flew really high in the air or just completely tore up and vice versa. Now when you or another car gets hit it is more realistic and you just either stop dead in the wall, or lift a few feet of the ground. It is only for a few seconds too, whereas the B3 you flew in the air forever and it was funny to watch.
The takedowns are not as cool to watch as they were in B3, however they did add cool parts where after you crashed the screen pauses to show that a new rival took revenge on you. The graphics are a lot better and the heavy feel for the cars is realistic but makes driving feel a bit stiff. That would be good for driving simulators such as GT, but for an action arcade game I kinda like the quick response of B3. However I am still playing it so I await more surprises, if you loved B3 this game is worth checking out, however so far nothing has dropped my jaw. I am off to play some more and comment later

Do the cars only feel heavier or has the overall physics and control become more simulated?
By driving stiff do you mean Gran Turismo stiff or Ridge Racer stiff?

Yes the cars are a lot more stiff and simulated almost like GT, however they really look good they have a great design in this version. Also I didn't menton how every map has an "off road" you can be driving down the main road then break through a gate and drive down some stairs which looks cool. On another level I thought I fell off the road to my death but I landed on another road underneath the bridge that I was on and kept racing, that was very cool.
One thing that B3 had that annoyed me was when you accidently ran into a regular car on the right side of the road which caused you to crash. They got rid of that now and you can just ram right into them, however it takes the fun out of trying to dodge cars when you know you can ram right into them and they go flying 1000 feet ahead of you.
This version is worth checking out, it is like they replaced some of the really cool things that B3 had with different cool things. It would have been great if they had kept the same look of the takedowns and the same weight of the cars, but it doesn't affect the gameplay as much.
I noticed in this version I could be driving straight and a car would bump me and I would lose control a few seconds after he had hit me and crash. Meaning that I would think that he just bumped me and that was the end of that, however I was bumped and kept going straight then suddenly lost control. More realistic, but I hope it won't make things harder later on by losing control everytime someone bumps my car a little bit. It reminds me of real life nascar or police chases when they nudge the ride side of the car's bumper to make them slide out of control.

Oh yeah, I just noticed that the DJ doesn't come on in the middle of the song while you are racing and say something funny anymore The music just plays throughout the whole map, however the music is really good.

Darn I was going to test out my video capture card again to see if it may work but it is still not working, I was going to record a little demo of me playing this game so you could see it for yourself. I also noticed that the game a whole lot slower, if I am not mistaken I think you are going the same speed whether you are using boost or not. Probably due to hardware constraints and the amount of detail that went into the background that the PS2 cannot process the graphics any faster or something, because when you hit the boost the screen has that stretch effect for a second but if you look at the background you will notice that you were going the same speed as before.
Whereas in B3 you are going fast but you hit that turbo and you are REALLY FAST. The game is worth a rental, it is not really bad but it doesn't feel like a burnout game.

When a game's title is Burnout and it doesn't feel like a burnout title...
Yep, that's a good enough reason for me not to try it. I'll just wait for the next installment

lol yeah Haine was playing it lol fun fun lol ahh Haine believes it was Stappy who asked if there was ummm crashbreaker and there is! lol and yeah you can basically drive all over the place so you can cut down alot of time when racing lol
Oh! Fuey! you gotta try this Haine doesn't know if you already did it but lol ok use the "normal" cars as MISSLES! lol like if u have an enemy or something thats a little ahead of you and theres a car between the two just drive into the car and it'll take out the car infront of you lol
annnnd you should also try squashing the cars lol likes if you go on a ramp or something that you could drive off to on the side and at the bottom of the side there's an enemy car just drive to the side and squahs it!!! lol its really funny lol

Yeah I have used that trick, and if this were the first time I have played burnout I would say it is really cool, but compared to the fast action intensity of B3 this game is in slow motion. In fact I am afraid that I may return this game in a few minutes, it is kinda disappointing that they took away all of the great things that made B3 extremely fun. Yes the vertical takedown is cool, but all of the minor cool things cannot make up for the totally amazing things that they have removed from the game.
The reason I have come to this decision was because I just made it to crash mode... In B3 when you crashed into those vehicles you could "feel" the hit... BAMMMM! then watch all of the other cars crash into each other. Then hit the R2 button to detonate and BOOOM!!! Even more cool crashes. The accidents looked realistic as though if you were travelling at the speed against oncoming traffic that would be the effect of the wreck in real life.
Now they changed the system where you do not just accelerate and crash anymore, it is similar to a basketball game where you have to shoot freethrows and they have a bar that moves up and down and you have to time it just right to gain speed. I skipped the intro that explained how to do this because I thought it would be the same as B3, but I should have listened Anyway I never got the bar on max speed and when I crashed into a car, it was very boring. You crashed and the camera just zoomed out or to the side, then all of the other cars would come and run into each other but it didn't have the same huge crash effect like B3.
This is not a coincidence, I truly believe that when game developers have a hit game, what they do in the next version is take away what WE loved in the previous version, and make changes to it to attract players who may not have liked the previous version. That way...
1. B3 fans will play the next version to find out that it sucks, but too late they have your money
2. It may get those who didn't like B3 due to it not being realistic or too hard or whatever, into liking this game.
That has to be the reason because the last time they made sequels better was back in the SNES days.

Back then sequels felt just like the previous version except they doubled the gameplay and included additional things to go along with the originals and better graphics. Mortal Kombat II is a great example.

Yes but play Burnout 3 and see how much more fun that is. When playing B3 I was leaning to the side, yeahing out "Awwww man!!!" when I messed up or barely lost a race, or when I took out someone I would say "Yeah take that *****!" with this version I am just sitting still and winning every race with a gold medal while plowing through cars.

Lol, you better not let any fan hear you say that about MK 2 or you'll get a long rant of how the Snes version of
MK 2 is censored and it was pretty bad and how MK: Gold did just that to MK:4 and it didn't sold well and how it was a good thing that the sequel to MK Deadly Alliance became pretty good because it wasn't just MK: Deadly Alliance expansion pack
hint: I'm a MK fan :p
