I never counted them either, but if the max you can do per hit is 99999 and the most overall is 1,599,984 (Try doing oblivion against a low defence enemy, armour break if you must). You do the maths.
Had a go at Dark Shiva with my base stats, got well... owned (sorry no other word for it, best was doing 612k damage or so). Still I REFUSE to Zanmato it.

The Omega Dungeon is a good place to train, safest way to go through there is make sure one of your characters has First Strike on his or her weapon so you can't be ambushed by the molboro

Just turn that overdrive thing off in the config menu, and then use oblivian, it shows all of the damage at the end.

Well, this probably has been said before(I didn't feel like reading), but the Celestial Weapons have an inate ability to ignor the targets defense. In doing so, you do more damage. So just get the CWs. It sounds easier than it really is though. You can check some faqs on gameFAQs for how to get them. The easiest ones are Tidus, Yuna, and Aurons. Wakkas is pretty easy if your good at blitzball.

The Celestial weapons do less damage as your HP drops for Tidus, Wakka Kimahri and Rikku. It is the oppositen for Auron. For Lulu and Yuna, it depends on their MP.
As for the Great Malboro ambush, first strike+provoke= no bad breath.
