How you would change FFXII

Well, I'm going to borrow Lucky Star's forum idea and ask how you would change FFXII to make it, what you think, better. This can be anything really; story, gameplay, side quests, art design! The world is your oyster, so to speak.

I'll get the ball rolling as I know people who will post in this will not be... Forgiving?

I don't think I would change much. I would definitely change Ashe's bottom half of her outfit as it doesn't seem to be befitting a monarch or even a rebel princess... Hot pink, micro skirt?

I would have implemented the changes from the International version for all versions. That means there are separate license grids for "jobs" and you cannot change them once you pick a job for someone. This would have made the leveling system more dynamic and the battles more strategic.

I would have liked the summons to be a bit beefier(stronger)... or maybe just have a bit more control over them so that they weren't so useless (hardly ever used them).

I found the story really intriguing and I liked how it was more politics and less romance (like FF Tactics).

I liked the how you could see all the monsters (most of the time), as well as having ones you couldn't beat until you were stronger. Made it seem like an actual world. I don't know what I would have done with the battle system as you needed it to take care of the monotonous stuff, when facing the tough enemies.

What say you? What would you do?

Make the battle system more involved. Severely limit what can be done with Gambits.

I'm sure I could think of more, but I just woke up. Laughing

As Anubis says something to be done with those gambits...they make the battle system far too easy...I might just do away with them all together so that you would actually have to play the bloody game XD

Vann to be more into the storyline...as it is he is just going along...he isnt a strong main character...and it makes the whole game kinda flat so that I just dont care what happens to them cuz I dun care about him. Either that or have a different main character.

I'd change Frans outfit...she came from a clan of hunters...she does not look like a hunter...its bothersome XD at the very least her highheels need to go XD

I would have left the summons with their given names...and not made practically the same ones with different names and had summons be airships...I cant figure out what the point of that is...say have a fire summon that looks a lot like a version of Ifrit but call him something else...why? XD

I would also keep the moogles looking classic moogle...the new ones werent bad looking but there was no reason for the change and I like me some classic moogles XD

Yes, I recall being a few hours into the game, having everybody rigged to use Phoenix Downs on anybody that died ever, having 99 of them, and having enough money to buy 10,000 more. Not sure when I was actually capable of buying that many, but I know for a fact that it was WAY to early to be able to pull off that kind of BS.

I usually went into battles under leveled and still the Gambits wouldn't kick in faster than I could switch to the person and use it manually so I didn't find the gambits took too much away from the game. I found it great I didn't have to do grunt work. But that is just my experience.

This I actually have to disagree with. The espers in XII were, for the most part, named after the Lucavi of FFT, which takes place on Ivalice as well. FFT came after XII chonologically, and many of them are defeated by FFT's main cast, but other Ivalice games have had these entities present as well.

I usually went into the battles underlevelled so the Phoenix Down gambits really helped but that said they never proc'ed quick enough so I would always be micro managing the healing. Every try beating the Behmoth King when you're under leveled? You'll be thanking those Gambits!

id dint do much leveling outside of the main three characters i chose to use at the time XD

A couple of years ago I would have had an endless list of things I want to change about this game, but not anymore, and I believe that everyone is entitled to change their minds.

I wouldn't change much about the story, now I like how it's more political then previous FFs, since I've developed a deep interest in politics as a theory and also as a philosophy, in a way, it's very interesting and allows many interpretations. However, I would involve Balthier more in the plot, he has the most interesting background. I still don't like how Vaan, the "main character" isn't as involved as the other characters. I am not sure about making Balthier the one you control, as it could take away part of the mystery that makes him so interesting. Maybe give Vaan a deeper story, something that has to do with his past in the war.

The gambits make the game very easy, they steal the suspense, but I wouldn't completely remove them, maybe partly by making only selected actions can be set before battles, not everything. I am not sure. Sure we want our games difficult since we played the amazing PSone games, but a 6 years old who is starting with FFXII would want gambits lol.

Another reason I prefer FFXII much more than before is FFXIII. As I play it I keep thinking "I can't believe I used to complain about FFXII, look at this!" But I am still in the beginning, so no judging.

I just wish the international version only released in Japan would have made it to other countries. It makes the game a bit better by making it so you have to stick to a certain "job" license board (12 boards for the zodiak) and so you can only use certain items. As well there was a built in "2X speed up" feature that allowed you to speed up the time flow. It seemed like everything for the better.
