How should Final Fantasy be played?

Should it be the original method of walking and the enemy pops up out of nowhere or should it be the Kingdom Hearts version where the enemy is just waiting for you?

I think I'll go with KH battle system though I prefer FFXII's better when it comes to battles. Real time battle is way better, instead of random battles.

But when we speak of Final Fantasy, its always been about random battles. And the victory theme, everything is classic until FFXII came to the picture. Its a huge change to the history of Final Fantasy, my opinion, and that change is for good.

I can't imagine Final Fantasy going on with random battles forever. Shoot me if my kid plays Final Fantasy with random battles.

KH battle system is quite well done, the shortkeys are easy to use so players don't panic when something bad happens.

yes, ffs in the past do have that classic 'screen-goes-blurry-as-if-you-just-had-a-load-of-alcohol-at-once' which i'll be sad to see leave, but i would imagine that ff's in the future would embrace a new method of fighting. but, if i had to choose between the two, i'd go with KHs method, even if it dos change the type of game somewhat.

I actually prefer the old method. Random battles and turn based combat for the win!

Real-Time battle does WHAT?! Final Fantasy XII is change for WHO?!

YOU need to read this, dude. SERIOUSLY. ALL the way through:

http://z4.invisionfree.com/Older_Memories/index.php?showtopic=87

What do you MEAN Real-Time Battles are better? Kingdom Hearts Real Time is Good. Final Fantasy XII has NO freakin' Real-Time Battle. You don't do anythin! All you do is walk up to the monsters then go make a sandwich! Are people -insane-?!

Anyway. Turn-Based F.T.W! There is NO possible way ANYTHING will ever beat what the Classic FFs did. FFXII is a total and awesome -screw up- in every sense (except perhaps the Hunts).

HOO-HAA!

Some people do prefer real-time to turn-based. You can only go and make a sandwich if you know that the gambits will work on that monster. It's also useful to give the command to attack the monster as soon as you can rather than the range the gambits require to work since it gives the characters time to prepare the attack. After that, you can go and make a sandwich if you really wish to. Laughing

Lies~! >:3

If someone is stupid enough not to know how to set your Gambits effectively and still defend it as a "good battle system", then I can only assume that certain someone doesn't like to do jacksh*t. Hence, that person can never say they like Real-Time Battle, because they do not do jacksh*t.
The Gambits work through Range. The characters move around to fit the range necessary for each Gambit, and the time it takes to Select the inicial strike will take up just as much time then just walking to the Beastie, seen as there are Turn Gauges, which further makes the idea of "Real-Time Battle" in FFXII utter stupidity.

You like Real-Time Battle? Play an RPG with a Real-Time Battle System. In the sense of RTB, it is stupid to imagine:

"Oh, hang on, Giant Monster. My Gauge is filling up so I can slash your face with an undersized and overrated sword =)"

Actually random battles can be improved if they didn't introduce RTB for FFXII, when they said FFXII is coming soon I actually thought the battle system would be something like Tales of Abyss or Tales of Destiny. They will still be random battles, taken to a different screen and then rather than the ATB bar they'll make the characters move freely..with a barrier limit so that players don't wander too far from the opponents. And they can see the enemies moving around, getting too near to them will trigger the random battle.

Now that I remember, KH was actually an action RPG. Most FF games are RPGs, but yeah it would be cooler if they make it like KH.

In the bottom of random battles hatred, I still have one thing I like about random battles. Razz
You can take your own sweet time just to perform a single action. There's no need to pause the game, the characters will still be in their battle stance staring at their opponent. Laughing

I like the fight system in KH. I dont mind turn based system but theres something about not being sucked into a seperate screen thats more appealing. Although Im not into the whole gambit bit with FFXII either...I want to do some work fgs I didnt get the game to put commands in one time and watch the whole battle play out without having to lift a finger.

I will always prefer turn based until the day it dies XD my three favporite series, FF, BoF and shadow hearts all use it XD although being able to see the monsters and move around like in ff12 was good too didnt have a thing for gambits preffered to do it all myself, it wasnt too much of a change from turn based in the point that you got to stop and choose your actions and keep you active with the ability to move...i guess ill let ff 12 be on par with turn based IF they take away gambits completely cos they are just stupid we wanna play the game not set it up at the start and watch it being played

I like the Lost Odyssey combat system. It's just like the old FF games, except you can have additional effects to your attack using the ring system.

Nope. I just looked it up on Wikipedia and I don't think any of the local shops were stocking it, even after the European release date.

Ah I remember Legend of Dragoon had to push the button when the square was in the right spot several times to get the most out of your attack. That was fun kept you on your toes XD
