It’s mostly because my English is not that good so I needed the subtitles to understand what they meant more. I admire anything classical, that’s why I liked the way they spoke, and the language in FFXII was probably the game’s best feature. Even if it’s that good; it won’t affect the rate of the game a lot, since there are other features in RPGs which are more important, like storyline, Gameplay, characters’ development etc…

I think the story revolved around Ashe and Balthier, and I think if the developers focused more on Balthier’s story the storyline would have been better and new in a way, instead of sharing much similarity with the storyline in FFIX. I agree with you on the swords; they sucked terribly, I never used them. It’s one of the mistakes in the game; weapons which are needed aren’t available; the weapons I had in most of the game’s parts where either of very high level or very low one.

So Penelo was a friend of a completely useless character, and followed him everywhere… for no reason, I wonder what that makes her Rolling Eyes Nothing about those two characters actually takes place in the main storyline, which, again, is somehow very similar to the one in FFIX. I guess every Final Fantasy character has its “thing” Balthier for example had the “leading man” thing Razz

I didn’t say the monsters in that place are hard, I said they are endless, which makes leveling up faster. They could be hard for the player when the characters are in low levels but they become very easy after leveling up the characters till 50 or something. But I wouldn’t recommend going to that place with low levels characters since the monsters will gather around you and tell you goodbye.

How-dare-you! How dare you compare Ashe to Sephiroth?! I won’t even argue on this one Razz

I am sure I won’t be able to level up my characters in FFXII anywhere near 90 anytime soon. I don’t play video games very often, so it takes me a verrrrryy looong time to level any characters up. I said earlier that my characters are around level 77… it took me nearly a year to do that Embarassed and I haven’t played the game in a long time, I guess I got bored beyond reason.

Cut Scenes are a big thing for me for RPG's... I'll play a horrible game JUST so I can get to the next cutscene if I like a game enough (Sonic Unleashed is a perfect example... Sorry but to get into a temple you shouldn't have to run the same stage about 3-5 times. That makes no sense. >.<) The graphics of the cutscenes were excellent, on top of the awesome dialogue, made it a MUST BEAT just to watch all the cut scenes. =P

Yeah, the weapons should have had more elements/effects... Either the enemy killed you too quickly, or you killed them too quickly.. Or it was a boss and they were immune.. Either way it was rare for any Curse status effects to be of any help. (Such as poision or Countdown, which is just Doom I guess...)

Penelo and Vaan were like bf and gf unofficially... They never actually got together, but they never did anything either lol. And Balthier kept saying he was the leading man, but honestly he didn't do much of anything spectacular except the ending..

SPOILER WARNING!
(Such as when Balthier and Fran 'sacrificed themselves' to save the others out of the Bahamut... Though at the ending cut scene when their airship was 'reclaimed' gave it away that they, somehow, made it out)

ANYWAYS...
I can't remember the place... Where you watched Ashe chose weather to cut the nethacite or make it whole and use it... That temple-like thing.. Anyways, when you unlock lower levels (to face GOD or w/e.. who was really easy and I didn't even know he was a Mark until after I already beat em lol) But in the lower levels of that place anyways, you get constantly ambushed.. That'd be a good place to level, just make sure to stay by the elevator in case you're almost ready to die. (Which makes it good because since there's a healing/teleporting/save crystal at the main floor, you don't have to worry about potions or cureing spells much)

And I just said that Ashe and Sephiroth held swords similar. =P That's all. Though I'll probably never get around to leveling them to 99 anytime soon either... Maybe if I'm dead-bored or in the mood or something. o.0

Oh, and Tifa? How dare you use cheats! >.<

For me; graphics are one of the least important parts in RPGs. They are not completely empty of importance since it’s actually one of the game’s parts, but there are many things that do matter more than graphics do, at least for me. I am the opposite of you; I would play a game with horrible graphics if its gameplay and storyline are good.

I know the place you are talking about. It’s not the best at leveling up, the monsters there aren’t so many; they end easily and I keep searching for more at the one level since I hate going up and down everytime… it just takes a long time. By the way, I’ve completed the game once, started it again since about a year but haven’t finished it again. I tried completing all the quests since I didn’t do so the first time, but I guess I got bored… especially after trying to level the characters up to 99.

Lol, that's one thing that was, odd... There were soo many side-quests.. And from one quest/side quest, you get an item (Not sure what it's called) however it's categorized as a Key Item, yet isn't used for anything.. Not the story line, not any other quest/side quest, not to unlock any door or use in any puzzle... It's literally pointless.. I'm not sure whether players just haven't found where it goes yet, or the programmers forgot something. o.0 I still haven't even found out how to fish. >.> I did, however, complete all 50 Marks! Just waiting for the stupid Moogle to give me the final mark, that has more than 1 mil hp. >.<

And true, Graphics aren't that important... I don't look for ones that have good graphics, but if I get into the cut scenes, and even if they are just beautiful, I'll play through the whole game to see them all.. =P I'm easily distracted that way. XD Devil May Cry 3 is the perfect example.. They tuned down the graphics, but turned up the fun. =P and the difficulty, resulting in many complaints and a release of a Special Edition... Weaklings. >.>

Anyways, once you get high enough, there really isn't a good spot for leveling... Either monsters give good exp and are spread out, or they give little and spread close together. >.<

I wonder if you get a reward for level 99? o.0 I really hope they make another Final Fantasy MMORPG... Just one that's free. >.> Final Fantasy XII, at times, felt like an empty MMORPG. XD

Kinda like how Dot Hack Sign was suppose to feel like an MMORPG.. But through all 7th game, not ONCE did they let computer players run around the fields killing monsters in front of you.. THey all hung out in town. >.> *curses them* That game series(s) could have been much better! >.<

Anyways, do you think FFVIII will be better? I haven't heard too much about it (then again I haven't looked) but I heard something about cards?

I don’t tend to memorize and remember the names of keys and items I obtain during the game; I notice the name of it later when I need to use it, but I always try to have it all even if I don’t know the usage of it at the time.

You mean FFXIII right? Razz
Well neither have I. It’s not very much anticipated by me since FFXII was a disappointment; FFXI is not even a real Final Fantasy… FFX-2 resembles a huge hole Square Enix fell in and haven’t come out of it yet. I may not be right, I hope I am not, but I think FFXIII won’t be an amazing game or anywhere near it.

… I just noticed that I always criticize Final Fantasy games and hardly complement any of its good features especially those on PS2 lol. Well I still love the series and it’s my favorite series actually; and I guess that’s because of the good old games which are my preferred ones of course.

Lol, back when things were simple and they just focused on fun? Like "Hmm, what could we do to keep people playing for hours with a smile?" =P Kinda like Mario! Which pipes lead to places? >.> <,< lol.

Anyways, that kinda makes sense. OF course you're going to be critical on how your favorite series is turning out. =P I think they are kinda expierementing on what works and what doesn't at the moment... FFX-2 tried out the "What if they beat it multiple times, with open-endings, trying to get to 100% complete?".. FFXI was excellent in theory but came out crappy, lol. FFXII was trying out the new battle system and altering of AI, though good, was easily mastered to the point where you didn't have to do any work... Now FFXIII is going to try something too... Eventually they'll find out what works and what doesn't, and mash it all in one awesome game. =P Until then, we kinda just have to wait and see. =/

Oh, and we are getting kinda off-topoic. >.< Uhm... Iunno, we are the only ones posting in here and I think we said how FFVIII could improve. XD

I think what FF VIII really needed was some balence, in essence, if you leveled your GF's and stocks all magics too 100, put it in str,vit and HP you pretty much won most battles.I LOVED the junction system in VIII i just wish it were somwhat better, story wise, i also loved, but i wished that they elaborated on seifers character a little more and i wish they did more missions than what they did, i loved the school theme, they did an awesome job with that as well. So, in conclusion, make the game harder.(i mean techiniclly you dont have to level) and seifer.

To lara

A good leveling spot is the abandoned labratory on the corner of the map, i forgot which corner, i got 2000 exp with two iron giants on the field, yeah, there tough and VERY constant fights, but i got outta there and had like 4 max leveled characters going back and forth. =D

True, and it would have been nice to visually see a difference when you junctioned.. Let's say you junctioned Aero for Str.. It'd be nice to see your weapon have a swirling vortext of air around it, ya know? But yeah, I agree, it was kinda easy if you just took the time to level those up a bit lol.

I think they did a good job with Seifer's char.. I mean, he started out as a bad guy, then he actually had a dream of being a Knight for Edea, then he slowly turned good. o.0 I do have two issues that I have to bring up because they anger me...

1. You get Edea as a party member for a little while... Why can't you do any cool moves? >.<
2. Seifer should have joined in the final boss.. Like, Siefer + Squall = Defeating Ultimecia or something...

Also, 2000exp isn't that much. o.0 Just fight in the (Can't remember the name... With all the marbolo's though) They give about 1000 exp each (Each time you level up, it decreases a tiny bit) but even then, when you need 150,000+ exp it takes forever! I don't think I'll ever get the last 14-15 levels to max 3 main characters out. >.<

the beggining of the game is excellent but when u get all party members the game sorta drags on not a lot is interesting after that Evil or Very Mad and yh more sidequests and deeper involvement of the other characters would be nice

In my opinion FFVIII is technoly sound.

Story is great, Characters are awsome, Battle system is good

to be honest the only thing that could make it better is if they did an VIII-2 you know like FFX-2 but to show what happened to the crew after the final battle and have them battling a new evil-ich.

would be nice to see but i dought it Sad

Actually they've been doing a few short sequels, but the storyline is not in depth - kingdom hearts, FF dissidia. It would be a great classic game, if Square would at least make a game where the older FFs are gathered - something like KH but the worlds are based on the FF games..instead of travelling to disney characters world, how about travelling to Midgar, FF8 world, Gaia, etc?

woot Finally the FF8 forum is active after a month down of no activities!

Why not? Seriously, thats a good idea too.

How about a team like this:
Tidus - LF (left forward)
Squall/Cloud - RF (right forward)
Zidane - C (midfield)
Kimahri - D (right defender)
Barret - D (left defender)
Sephiroth - GK (Goalie! ROFL...)

Sephiroth: Why on freakin' !@*^$# do I have to be a goalie?
Leon: So, no one will dare to shoot the ball at you.
Sephiroth: So what am I supposed to do in front of the goal? Stand like a !(*%$#%?
Leon: Preach about the Promising Land and Jenova.
