Easy, the east india trade route. I think that was the most interesting thing at the time then, that or pirates lol.
Try to refrain from referring to Pirates of the Caribbean too much though haha

I think pirates would be awesome, seeing as each colonial country (England, Spain, Portugal, France, etc) all allowed piracy to happen. They employed... privateers?... which was pretty much a pirate to capture the other countries ships and steal all their spices and stuff.
You could talk about how after doing that the privateers would eventually just turn to piracy and become pirates. I did a report on Captain Kidd.
You could touch light on how some of these privateers were working for the royalty and would sometimes end up being hanged for their supposed.
Golden age of piracy!
