its been a while. but if i remember, try clicking on the thing in the floor. is like a little door (on the right in front of the ladder- the metal floor bit). should open up i think.
otherwise just keep clicking around everywhere, sometimes the collision detection is very specific.
hmm..thats wierd. just go from the top to bottom of the screen clicking around everywhere. should find it in the end. otherwise it may be a glitch or something. (i remeber when i was in the lift going to the garden basement the same thing happened- had to open a hatch in the floor, but nothin would seem to work.).
(has the cut scene with rinoa looking over already happened?)iif not then have you walked up towards the camera?, it might trigger the cut scene off. otherwise i really cant see why it should be playing up, but whats annoying is that im sure something like this happened with me, its just that it was such a long time ago
try looking at a guide and see if it says anything about that bit.
Wait... I remember this place.. this is where Rinoa stands with the birds right ?... if you haven't seen that 9Rinoa with the birds) keep wondering around and you'll see it lol after that you just go and open that door... there is nothing you have to press or anything

there any scratches on the cd or anything (to be fair these ff8 discs are dodgy..my cd1 wont load the intro movie properly even though its in perfect condition)
otherwise the best thing you can do is keep reloading and trying...the door should just open. keep at it- if it still persists then maybe borrow, rent (somehow) or buy the game again (and keep the receipt and take it back after youve done that bit )
its annoying me just thinking about how annoying that is though. hope it doesnt ruin your ff8 experience
