The extra equipment slots are rewards in mission 7-2-2 and 7-2-5 i think (Seeking Priceless Items -> Precious Things ->Search and Destroy II / Operation: Mako Reactor III)

seeking peecious items and pricless items and the yuffie missions, there the toughest ones as well though, but eventually youll get like, energy and ultima materias off the bat in the deeper missions. and more importantly the sp master materia, which pretty much makes you invinceable, if you know what your doing. /sp?
