But that doesn't mean we have a chat box.
But like I said, you can talk to people on the forums in specific categories, the best place to go if you want lots of conversation, though, would be in the Lounge. Still, right now you and I are the only ones online so I wouldn't anticipate a fast response. At the same time, because it is a forum and not a chat box, your posts will be up and visible for when people get up. Because at many time zones, it is not a time to be awake. Including my time zone. Ah, talking at 2:33AM. Nothing is like it.

It is a security thing. You get karma points just for being online for so many days. My assumption is that it keeps bot profiles from popping up and spamming peoples' accounts as well as people who are just hostile users.
I know it is a pain, but some people have proven that it was warranted.

I don't know. I never really understood the karma points. I just smiled and nodded like I knew what they were talking about when they got added.
And it seems to have worked so far, up until I had to try to explain to you how to earn them.
