Best way of not getting killed? Don't get hit. Equip Evade and Counter. You can get quite a lot of useful items by doing the sidequests (Wings To Discovery for Trio of 9999, Shining Gems for 6k damage each etc.)

yeah basically using items wisely....but i think it's impossible to do all those if you dont use sphere grid and no overdrive as well...well thats only what i think..

The game has been completed like that, with no summoning added too. I've got to Braska's Final Aeon with no customisation on top of that as well.

Hardest parts got to be taking on some of those monsters that the monster arena guy makes (Especially if you haven't got very high stats).
