getting ff 9 again
Ok im gonna go get ff9 today cos its the only ff9 ive played through once and that was years ago
just wondering if ther was any tips or secrets any one knows that theyd like to share
i was also wondering what you get if you do the fighting bit at the start perfectly

If you do it perfect you get 98% of the nobles impressed and queen brahne quite impressed and i think like 2300 gil... it's not a big deal.

General Tips:
Once learnt, equip support abilities such as "Loudmouth", "Bandit" and "Bright eyes" smartly, e.g.
Vivi should always have "Loudmouth" switched on to ensure he can cast Black Magic and Dagger/Eiko for White Magic.
"Bright eyes" should be equipped to those who rely on physical attacks, such as Steiner.
Steal often, and whenever you can, it will come in handy once Zidane learns "Thievery" for just a small mp cost, you can cause great damage {physical} (Relied on how many items you have stolen).
Secret: When in Oielvert, magic is supposedly disabled but Amarant, Zidane and Freya can all use their action abilities, Quina cannot as it is "Blue Magic". Presumably Steiner can use his sword art too.
So a good team for Oielvert is: Zidane, Freya, Quina and Amarant. Leave Steiner behind as he can use Sword Magic with Vivi, aiding their battles when you switch back to them.
Equip items to characters who have not yet learnt the abilities contained within.
As soon as a character has learnt an ability, change the equipment to either:
a) another piece of equipment with unmastered abilities attached
b) a piece stronger than the one currently equipped

Share equipment out, especially those containing abilities such as auto-life and as soon as it is mastered by one character, switch it to another.
------------------------------------
Equip abilities such as "Ability-up" in conjunction with equipping more than one piece of equipment containing the same ability to master it faster: e.g.
Equip Desert Boots and Wrist on Zidane, and you get 2x the amount of ap for "Flee-Gil" and if you have "Ability-up" activated, it is then doubled again. So if you face an enemy giving 2ap per kill you get 2ap from desert boots, 2ap from wrist (=4) then multiplied by 2 and you get 8ap!

Zidane
Freya
Quina
Amarant
Strategies:
Freya cast "Reis' wind" and Zidane steals items, Amarant makes sure everyone's mp levels are constant using "Chakra" when neseccary.
Quina can also heal the entire party using "White Wind". Then pummel the enemy with everything you got.
Zidane
Vivi
Quina
Amarant
Strategies:
Pretty much the same as the previous, but with Vivi throwing spells such as "Thundaga" and "Water" at the enemy.
Zidane
Dagger/Eiko
Vivi
Steiner
Strategies:
Zidane steals as often as possible, especially during boss fights.
Vivi focus a few times to strengthen his spells, ready for when the items are all stolen.
Dagger cast cure, and cura whenever necessary. (curaga in emergencies * all characters)
Steiner use Iai Strike on weaker foes to (usually) disable them instantly.
Steiner can also use shock, usually dealing 9999 damage.

Tips for defeating "Yan"
Summon Odin and cast death each turn with vivi.
Cure virus (in order to get the well deserved exp. and ap for your characters at the end) always.
Equip auto-life first, then other useful abilities such as auto-regen and auto-haste if you have enough magic stones.
Equip on Dagger "Odin's Sword" incase the death spell fails it will still do damage.
Eliminate the little.... fluffy things asap!

always steal 3 times every boss fight assuming u have zidane or marcus
everything said above me but party combos r really up to u
as long as u have auto-regon(freya can cast it too) u should be ok by the end of the game
my party at the end was zidane, vivi, garnet, and steiner but it was kinda dumb because garnet had no purpose at all except defending everytime
u might wana rather use freya/quina/amarant

cool man...o another tip when u go into g. grotto(iono how to spell it) bring a * of potions/hi-potions/phnx downs or train a whole lot
and remember to pick up quina...i never knew about it until my 2nd trip through the game

At the start of the battle with gizamaluke, use a tent on him - with luck it will poison, silence etc him !
If you are unlucky it will just fully heal him so only try this at the start of the battle
