I think we need this thread. A lot of us come from countries we're probably never going to visit, and we all have different eating habits and tastes. So this thread is about people posting what they like to eat. What the most common feeds are in their local area. What they grew up on, or what you like to cook.
I'll start off with saying what I like to cook. I've been cooking for a few years since apparently girls like that sort of thing, or something lol
Anyway a common Sunday breakfast here is eggs, toast and sausages. But in South Australia (and only this state)there is also fried fritz. Fritz, is this
It is some sort of meat you can buy in a butcher that tastes a BIT like spam, but it isn't spam (and it is not very healthy and honestly I don't want to know what it's made from). However when sliced and fried on a pan, it becomes the most amazing meatstuff. Simple but so delicious. It makes bacon taste like cardboard, honestly. Visitors from other states love it XD
Sometimes I batter it, which makes it like a fritter, but i prefer fried.
But to my new creation which my friends now call the lynchwich. If you don't get the name, don't worry XD
This is it.
This one was a bit light on the toppings lo
Now I have a feeling some people will say "this isn't new" or something. I won't care because I've never seen it and neither has anyone else here so
It is basically two tortilla-style bases. What I have is actually roti bread (used in Indian foods), but it is similar to a tortilla and I'm not sure if they are strictly the same thing.
I treat it just like a normal pizza, my favourite sauce, bbq, with my favourite toppings - salami, cheese, tomato, spicy dried meat. Then make another base the same way and slam it on top. Then bung it in a sandwich press and it's ready in a few mins XD. The firmer you press down, the faster it cooks XD
This would be, probably, fattening. But tastes so gooood.
Granted those two examples there are just frying on a pan or something but they are things that are rare and tasty, I wouldn't eat these sort of things all the time lol.
So what about you guys?

I do cook, but unfortunately there is no time to do it on daily basis. I like experimenting and inventing new meals, which I would end up eating even if it tastes like rubbish. As for breakfast, I am a person who lacks time-management skills and likes to sleep for very long hours, so I only have time for coffee in the mornings. That's what people generally have here with sweet pastries or bread with jam. I used to eat strawberry jam everyday when I was a child, not anymore though.

that first picture reminds me of kielbasa, which is yumtastic.
and though this is terrible and I don't recommend it, i do most of my cooking while drunk. Ive got this thing about making different kinds of stir-fry while wasted. its pretty dangerous lol. all the cutting and flames.
as for other cooking, breakfast is a must and Ive got it down to a science time wise. I'm not so big on lunch as my lunch is usually just making a sandwich... and that's not really cooking.

Lara, can you show us some of your local pizzas?
I'm curious XD. We have croissants a lot too with butter and jam ^^
Yeah Arc we do have english style but we drink tea in mugs, and with loads of milk. Though I forgot to mention chivapachichis (sp?) which are a small spicy sausage, and baked beans which a lot of people love, though I don't.
Wasted stir-fry? Nice.

for breakfast i normally just get either a sandwicdh or some frozen thing from the freezer XD
i think my diet probably consists of at least 70% added salt from frozen meals XD
stir fry would be awesome drunk because theres so much crap you could put in it
and you know you feel like eating a load of different flavours when your drunkXD
...this is why kebab (gyro's in america?) are so popular amonst them Xd

I like to experiment with Noodles and pasta products, I can make a pretty good spaghetti bolognese if i do say so myself, and could probably cook anything else if i cared to try, most of the science in cooking is just about getting everything to be cooked at the same time.

I love to cook, everything from breakfast foods like biscuits and gravy (not the store bought stuff mind you) to dinner things. I cooked a mean Corned Beef just the other night. I don't try and make odd concoctions anymore, seeing how no one but myself would ever eat any of it... well except my Macaroni and hamburger, heavily seasoned with lemon pepper.. any ways..
anymore tho, I try to stick with BBQ or smoking meats. there's just something satisfying about smoking a brisket for 8 hours, ribs are no longer a challenge, unless I've been drinking and then they tend to be a little on the crispy side. I hope one day to master the crock pot. just never have had the time tho..

I try and cook random meals if I see it and feel up to it. I am most know for my Belgian Toast a.k.a French toast. I have been know to try to do stir fry. The hardest thing to do is to try and cook a soup from scratch! I mean something like Chicken noodle soup is impossible without the right ingredients (chicken bones for stock, celery, carrots, half white onion, broccoli, chicken, rice, peas) but it always tastes bland (I try and limit my sodium intake). Without a crap-ton of salt if you didn't make your stock right it tastes bland. But I have come up with something. Soup always tastes better when you let it cool to room temp and sit then heat it up (leftover soup is delicious) since the tastes all co-mingle and get all good).
My signature dish is a very simple pasta dish:
Half a pack of egg noodles
1 -2 Can(s) of Tuna (could be substituted for any meat really but tuna works well)
1 can of condensed cream of (blank) soup
Cheese (as much as you want).
baking pan.
Pretty much you cook the noodles till done
drain the noodles
put the condensed can of soup in it and the tuna
stir it and cook for a couple minutes.
take off the stove and put into baking dish
sprinkle graded cheese on top and bake in oven until cheese is melted.
I'll take pictures the next time I have some.
Here is stir fry I made way long ago:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3695281&l=b04c8fc10e&id=503777845
Didn't have enough veg in it but it was my first attempt!
