fixing SSBB laging online if ur using WiFi!
go here and find ur router and go to its home page http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/routers/en_na/routerIndex.jsp
look for DMZ plus or mode and find the wii {it should say wii on the list of things that connect to ur router} click edit firewall settings and click dmz mode! i got 2wire so i have tryed it and it works! its a little different for every router but roughly the same way!

My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a burning wind punished my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbed into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it came, the wind carried the same thing. Death. But the winds that blew across the green fields of Hyrule brought something other than suffering and ruin. I coveted that wind, I suppose." ~ Ganondorf. |

DMZ mode will basically make your router plug your wii directly into the internet with none of the basic protection that a router gives.
its not recommended for security reasons, but is a great way to chain-link multiple routers (only one needs to offer the protection, you dont need two routers filtering your internet)
so if any wii hacks come out, this will make your wii easy to get access too, but i think until then this method is fine.

presumably i could do this with a ps3 as well?
and would this stop other machines, say my wii or laptop from using the same wireless? less bandwidth for everything else?

you certainly could, it might make your latency decrease (good) but generally i enjoy the idea of the extra security my router offers me. not to mention that if you use DMZ any packet prioritization done on your router will not be done.
im not an expert on networks. (Fun should be, he would know best) but having packet inspection on your router is intended for important data to be sent out first (gaming) and unimportant data to be sent out whenever (browsing)
by turning off DMZ, you should see improvement if you are the only one on your network. but might encounter problems if there are other systems on your network using bandwidth.
