Stats & Status Effects

Stats

HP Bar
HP is short for Health Points, and is essentially your character's health. Various healing items are available to replenish HP, and can be bought from the RPG Shop. Your HP bar will turn red when your HP is close to 0. If it reaches 0, you die and will have to be revived. This can be done at your RPG Headquarters or using Phoenix Downs, which can be bought from the RPG Shop.

MP Bar
MP is short for Magic points, and determines how many times you can use a spell. Different classes have different amounts of MP to start with- this reflects the importance of spells for each class. Classes without any starting MP are "fighting" classes and rely solely on weapons. MP, like HP, can be replenished by buying items from the RPG Shop.

HP and MP can also be replenished to the full at the Inn or by Camping. Both options can be found at the RPG Headquarters.

Experience/Exp Bar
Experience dictates the rate at which you level up. Experience can be gained by either battling in the Battle Arena, or by being an active poster in the forums. Your experience bar will turn red when you have almost gained enough experience points to level up. Currently the experience gained for each post is 8-12.

Status Effects

Cursed
The "Cursed" effect can be caused by wielding a Cursed weapon. This causes several weapon effects during a battle: the weapon may inflict no damage, the weapon may inflict normal damage, the weapon may inflict double damage, or the weapon will damage the user.
This effect can be removed by using Fairy Powder, which can be bought from the RPG Shop.

Muddled
The "Muddled" effect is caused by several types of Brumos from the Battle Arena. This effect increases the chances of missing a strike against a Brumos during a battle. However, please take note that Spells and Summons are not affected by this effect.

Poisoned
The "Poisoned" effect can be caused by Brumos in battle, or acquired during camping. It causes your character to lose some HP per turn in battle, in addition to the damage from the Brumos. The amount of HP lost per turn varies with each class; the amount lost from poison is generally close to the level of your character.

Zombie
The "Zombie" effect can be caused by Brumos during a battle. Healing items will now cause harm if you use them whilst in this state. It can be cured by using Holy Water.

Silenced
The "Silenced" effect can be caused by from the Battle Arena, and prevents you from casting spells. It can be cured using Echo Screen.

To cure both the "Muddle" or the "Poisoned" effects, an Antidote has to be used.
For Robots and ProRobots, the Antivirus protection can also be used to cure these two effects. Both of these items can be purchased at the RPG Shop.

The "Diet Soda" rare can also be used to recover from the "Muddle" and "Poisoned" status effects during battle. Similarly, the "Remedy" rare item cures all four status effects.

All five status effects can be cured at the inn, for a supplemental cost of 25 gil for "poisoned" and "muddled" status, and 50 gil for the "cursed","zombie" and "silenced" status effects, on top of the basic Inn cost.

There are also various ultra-rare accessories which can be equipped to prevent these effects. Further information can be found here.

Headquarters Guide

From top right, clockwise

Your Inventory

This gives access to your inventory, where you can view all the items in your possession. Further information can be found in the "Inventory Guide" section of the FAQ.

Record Book

This allows you to store notes using your computer's cookies. Anything which is kept here can only be seen by you or anyone who uses the computer where the notes are stored.

Promotion

This allows your character to promote to the next class, which has similar strengths and weaknesses as your existing one, but stat gains per level and the Brumos difficulty increases. Currently each basic class can only promote once. Your character needs to be at least level 10 before they can be promoted.

Class Training

This allows you to change your character to one of the basic classes of the game. The cost is 5 x your character's current level. Please note that when you change class, you will have to start from level 1; your previous level will not be kept. All classes listed here, unless otherwise specified, is available to all. Any class which isn't listed here will not be available to you until you complete the first 20 basic and promoted classes. For the list of available classes please click here.

Revive

This option allows you to revive your character after you have been beaten in battle and have 0 HP and costs 10 x your character's existing level. It recovers a small amount of HP and MP, but not to the maximum. You will need to use the Inn, go camping, or use HP and MP recovery items.

Other Players

This links you to the Player Stats page, which is a sortable page of statistics for all the players on this site. This page can also be accessed directly by clicking the "Player Stats" option at the top of the forum.

Cauldron

This option allows you to mix up to 4 items at a time, to produce a new item. Each mix costs 20 gil. However, at the current time of writing only 1% items can be made in this way. For the cauldron mixing secrets, click this link.

Inn

This option allows your character to regain all its HP and MP, and cure any status effects, for a small fee. The cost will depend your character's level; for levels 1-19, the cost is 20 x your character's level; from level 20 onwards, the cost formula has yet to be determined. To cure a status effect, a small fee of 25 gil added onto the normal inn price.

Camp

This option can be used to heal HP and MP when you don't have enough gil for the inn. However, if you choose to camp, you run the risk of being attacked, robbed or poisoned, and there is no set limit as to how many times you will have to camp to regain maximum HP and MP. Occasionally you may also receive a small amount of gil for camping.

Battle Arena

This option allows you to enter into battle with a Brumos. When clicked, a screen comes up with all your existing stats: this gives you the opportunity to change equipment, or to go back and heal if you accidentally pressed this button. Further information is given in the "Battle Arena" section of the FAQ.

At the bottom of the page there are links to your item/equipment inventory, your Midi inventory and the "Equip Item" page. A summary can also be found, which shows your class, current character stats, experience and gil. There is also a list of recent item transactions.
A list of Inn, Revival and Class training costs can found near the end of the FAQ.

Inventory Guide

Your Inventory contains all the items and equipment that you currently possess. A summary bar at the top of your inventory shows your class, current character stats, experience and gil. There is also a list of recent item transactions. The "Actions" button takes you to the bottom of your inventory where you can use the Give and the Trade buttons, which are explained further in the Items Trading section of this FAQ.

In the main part of your inventory your items are displayed in alphabetical order. These are divided into different categories depending on the type of item: Collectibles, Items, Greens, Spells, Skills, Weapons, Projectiles, Helmets, Armor and Shields.

Collectibles: These are Rare items which have no other use, only items which are collected by Rare Hunters. Further information on this can be found in the Rares and Rare Hunters page.

Items: Items are used for healing HP/MP and increasing stats.

Greens: Greens are used to feed captured Chocobos.

Spells: The spells section include spells and summons.

Skills: The only currently available skill is "Steal".

Weapons: This includes Axes, Blades, Bows, Guns, Halberds, Katanas, Knives, Lances, Maces, Quarrels, Spears, Staffs, Swords, Tomahawks, Wands and Whips.

Projectiles: All thrown items which can inflict damage or status effects on opponents.

Helmets: This includes Circlets, Helmets and Ties.

Armor: This includes Mails, Robes, Shells and Suits.

Shields: This includes Braces, Gloves and Shields.

All categories (apart from Collectibles) will show both rare and non-rare items, if you have them in your possession. Rares are the only collectible available at this moment, and as such this category consists entirely of rare items.

At the bottom of your inventory your current equipment setup is displayed. You also have the option to change the category of item being viewed, and the "Trade" and "Give" options.

Battle Arena Guide

The Battle Arena can be accessed via the RPG Headquarters and lies at the heart of the RPG. It is where your character gets to fight Brumos, gain gil, experience and items. It is also the main place where you lose HP and MP.

Starting out

When you click on the Battle Arena, you will be taken to the Battle Arena page, which displays your character's equipped items, the amount of HP and MP it has, and if your character is suffering from a status effect. If the Battle Arena link was pressed by accident, this page allows you go back, and make the necessary changes. You are also given the opportunity to change the equipment worn by your character, and that the best equipment is being worn before entering battle. You can only battle if your character has equipped a helmet/circlet/tie, an shield/bracer/tie, a piece of armour (mails, robes, shells & suits), and a weapon. There is also an option to play a song from your midi inventory during battle. A slot is also present for equipping an ultra-rare accessory.

The Battle

Once you click the "Battle" button, your character will be put into a fight with an opponent, which will be a random choice from a list of monsters, known as Brumos. The Brumos you can face changes with each level- some new ones are added, some older ones disappear.

The first hit of the battle is done by the Brumos; however, the damage received can be decreased if a good shield/similar item is equipped, and they can sometimes miss.

Your turn

For your battle turn, you have several options: You can attack using your equipped weapon; you can use an item; or you can cast a spell/summon.
Attacking with weapons is the main attack option for classes with little or no MP, but these attacks have a chance of missing your opponent.
If you choose an item, only those which can be used in battle are displayed. These include HP recovery items, antidotes, or combat items(projectiles). If the opponent proves to be too strong, you can also use a Brumos Repel in order to run away.
You can also use the "Steal Ability" to steal an item from the Brumos, however, it does not always work.
Attacking with spells/summons is the main attack option for classes with lots of MP, and these attacks have a smaller chance of missing than conventional attacks. However, even though MP can be replenished in battle, it can run out, so always have a fairly good weapon in hand just in case.
For some classes, a mix of weapon attacks and spells is ideal; the weapon may do more damage than the spell/summon, and a spell/summon can be used to increase the likelihood of finishing off an opponent.

Victory!

Upon killing the Brumos, you will be awarded a certain amount of Experience points and gil. You may also receive an item, and occasionally these include "rares" which cannot be purchased from the RPG shop. These items may be equipment, or collectibles. The experience and gil awarded at the end of each battle varies with each battle; more experience means less gil, and vice-versa.

Brumos explained

The Brumos all have different stats and levels of difficulty; but they are all beatable. The full range of Brumos can be found at the RPG Monster Review.
The type of Brumos worth a special mention are the Brumos bosses. These are much stronger than the normal Brumos, with much higher HP than normal Brumos. Several other Brumos can IK, but bosses tend to be much harder to fight. However, if you manage to beat them, they give much more gil and experience than normal Brumos. You can only meet your first boss after you reach level 10; however, just as the Brumos are randomly picked, there is no guarantee that you will meet a boss in your first battle after reaching level 10. A new boss is added after each ten levels; there are a total of 10 bosses in the game, each one stronger than the last one. Brumos are also known to run from battles, so there is a chance that you will not be able to gain experience and gil.

RPG Shop Guide

The RPG Shop button can be found near the top, with the other RPG buttons.

Shops

The RPG shop is where you will be purchasing most of your equipment.
Weapons available are Axes, Blades, Bows, Guns, Halberds, Katanas, Knives, Lances, Maces, Quarrels, Spears, Staffs, Swords, Tomahawks, Wands or Whips. There are also shops for Spells and Summons.
Head gear available are Circlets, Helmets or Ties.
Off-hand(the hand not wielding a weapon) items available are Braces, Gloves or Shields.
Body armour available are Mails, Robes, Shells or Suits.
Bought items will are listed in alphabetical order in your inventory.
Upon buying an item, you may receive a Strange Ticket, Bizzarre Horn or a Green used for catching and feeding Chocobos.

Please take note that not all items can be equipped by your class; please refer to the "Basic Class", "Promoted Class"and the "Advanced Class equipment notes in the FAQ for more information. Also note that are level requirements for equipment.

There is also an Items shop where you can purchase HP, MP and status-curing items. There are also several items that give your character a permanent stat boost, provided you remain in your class. A list of these items and their effects are given in the "Items Guide" section of the FAQ.

At the bottom left there is a list of the five most popular items which are bought - this may save you having to go through the Item shop to find that item. On the bottom right, there is a list of the most recent approved items, some of which may be usable by your character.

Below the main shop area, several options are displayed.

Right to left, first row

The slot machine is bascially a fruit-machine. Each try cost 10 gil; if all the fruits are different you lose all your money; if two fruits are the same you receive 7 gil. A jackpot of the same fruit gives 50 gil for three apples, 75 gil for three bananas, 100 gil for three oranges and 500 gil for 3 starfruit. If you play the slot machine with gil, you will only win gil. A strange ticket can also be used on the slot machine, and in this case you will receive a rare if you get 2 or 3 fruit of the same type.

The Fortune Teller, as the name suggests, earns her living by telling fortunes. Each fortune will cost 15 gil.

The Blacksmith previously allowed you to suggest new items for the RPG shop. However, it has been closed as of early 2008, as the shops are now considered to be full.

New! You can now suggest pictures for shop items, as well as backgrounds for battle. For those who don't know how to do so, heres the Easy way to create new images.

Right to left, second row

The Midi shop is the music shop for the RPG. It has a small number of songs, and these can be played during a battle.

The Magazine stand brings you to the Funender Magazine page, where you can view the latest edition of the magazine.

The Chocobo Farm can only be accessed if you already have a farm, or if you have at least 6 chocobos in your possession, which allows you to buy a farm. Further information can be found in the Chocobos section of the FAQ.

Items Guide

Items Location

Items are found either at the RPG Shop, or from Brumos in the Battle Arena. These items can be used to recover HP, MP, escape Brumos or cure status effects. Status-curing items and stat-raising items are listed below. Rare items are only found as Brumos drops in the Battle Arena, or by purchasing it from other players.
