I just heard a rumor today that Square Enix is actually remaking Final Fantasy VII for PS3 . Now this is just a rumor but does anyone have any info that I do not know?

its not a rumor.
its actually 100%
False.
square only did that tech demo. the developer said that to make a remake of FFVII for the PS3 at that level quality would take 100 programmers 4 years.
and thats just for a remake. not for an original title.
so. no its not going to happen. if it does, it wont be a full fledged tech demo remake, it will be a moderate attempt to just get some more cash remake. and it would probably be multiconsole since square is heading down that road.
FFVII does exist you know. its on the PS1, its still a game, why do we care if they are remaking it. so that it LOOKS better? ok whup-de-frigging-do i thought that gameplay mattered over graphics. why pat $50 for a pritter version of a game that you already own and beat several years ago?

im gonna have to disagee with both Thor and seifer
Whenever I am told a story(All FF are stories!), and it has visuals that come with it, if I can see it better visually the story is that much more involving cause you can identify better with the characters. I am not saying you can not do that with the "block hands" I am just saying it helps you get that much more involved.
I mean when Sepiroth is going insane, imagine if you could see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice and see it in his body language (to a better degree)!
[edit] Also Thor I was well aware of the Tech Demo, in which they remade the opening sequence of FF:VII, what I was talking about was an actual rumour of them finishing what they started with the demo.
100 Programmers 4 years! okay we all know how companies use hyperbole (Sony gets that all the time "Over Hyping" you should know Thor you said it yourself I believe.
BUT if it takes 100 programmers 4 years to make it how long would it take 400 programmers?

400 programmer? probably 3 years and about 4x the salary, games dont work like that, the more people you add doesnt mean it finishes faster.
if you had 4000 programmers it wouldent take like 3 months.
hyperbole? what? no this is not a case of overhyping, its a case of square saying that they already made that game and dont want to redo it. the WILL make sequils off of it and movies, but the value of remaking the game just isint worth it.
no the tech demo isint a start, it was a movie. if you make a movie, it doesnt mean that you already started with the game. its just a movie. CGI, made to play on your DvD player. its the same as if DOOM the movie is the start of the project to make DOOM 4.
they COULD do a remake, but i seriously doubt it. im not denying it outright, im just saying dont expect one, square did change alot when it merged with enix (frankly i hate the new square-enix, i loved squaresoft, and i dont mean the name, i mean the company and the games they have released since the merger.)

a lot of the time one part of the team is doing one thing and nobody else knows about it and thus counter-productivity takes place. tis horrible

yeah, i though i could get that comment to sqeek past. I relised what I said after the post. Though I do agree with you Thor on the whole Square Enix thing. SquareSoft knew how to make a good game! They didn;t release many "filler" games either.
But Square Enix releases so many games and low quality ones at that. I mean I played the demo for the Full Metal Alchemist Game and it was very short of the "good game" mark. very short. But they do put out alright games except every other game has Chibi like characters. I hate Chibi!

The thread was revived so let me quote something too (gamespot)
| wrote: |
the demo was created to show just how powerful the PlayStation 3 technology is. As a result, it's a tech demo only and is not intended to indicate that a PS3 remake of FFVII is presently under active development by the company.
However, when pressed, the reps also noted that further plans for content based on FFVII haven't been set, per se. They affirmed that the resulting reaction from fans over the demo footage and the content related to FFVII shown at the party has been overwhelmingly positive. As a result, provided fan reaction continues to be feverishly positive over the demo, and the very notion of a FFVII remake is certainly something Square Enix would bear in mind when planning future projects.
Does this mean it's on? Probably not at this exact moment, but at this point, we're willing to bet it's not a matter of if an FFVII remake will happen, but when. |
i was pretty mad when i found this out, it was just recently, really, pretty mad.

wait... so why are you mad?
i mean, a remake would be silly... but id still buy it. and if anything, it would spread the game. think of how many ppl have only played ffx or soemthing.... rereleasing ff7 for an updates console would open ppls eyes to the wonders of the past.

they'd f**k something up. like Aries doesnt die or something...
or like cloud looks ghey, there would be MILLIONS of things people would/will complain about with a remake..
then you would get the reatards who would swear to god that the remake is better than the original.
and finally that whole notion of gameplay>graphics would be thrown out the window.
im not saying its a bad thing to do a remake, im just saying its not going to be nearly as good as the original and people are going to *.

If they did remake it, it would sell like crazy. Whether if the game itself were any different from the original or if it were the same. I for one would love it if they did remake it, because I don't own the game (I'm borrownig a copy off a friend)
