umm.. i have a myth too.
Mythology has played a huge roll in Role-Playing games. Things from magic, old folk lore, to ancient creatures, all are used in moden day role-playing games. One of the most influential cultures used is the Greek culture. Greek mythology is used in many RPG's such as Final Fantasy, to Breath of Fire. Creatures like the nymphs to the deadly Sirens are used in Final Fantasy. They are also used in many ways. For instance, Titan is used as a summon that has an earth atribute to him that attacks enemies. On the other hand, Sirens in Suikoden, are deadly enemies that used their singing ability to damage characters.
One of the bigger mythological characters has to be the famous Gilagamesh which is a Babylonian myth. In Final Fantasy V, Gilgamesh starts out to be a bad guy underneath the evil man X-Death. He carries a Japanese weapon that is called Masamune, which was used during the Tokugawa era in Japan. Gilgamesh later realizes that the good guys are doing the right thing. Gilgamesh is also used in other Final Fantasy's like Final Fantasy VIII as a summon.
Another "big" mythological character has to be Odin, who is the ruler over all in Norse mythology. Odin is pretty much used in all the Final Fantasy's that use summoning. Some others are Fenrir and the Valkryies who were lady knights.
Underworld rulers have always been a popular pick as bad guys or used for something bad. Hades for example is an enemy first, but then used a synthesist later in Final Fantasy IX. Anubis, the underworld ruler in Egyptian mythology is used as a data chip in Megaman Battle Network II for a kill all attack.
Behold now behemoth, which I am made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in the loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar; this sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
That verse is taken out of the Bible. It is talking about the creature called Behemoth, which is used an enemey in Final Fantasy. Usually Behemoth is found towards the end of the game. At the end of each game, the monsters get harder and harder, and behemoth is considered one of the hardest monsters in the game, sometimes even a boss.
Some other Roman and Greek mythological creatures that are used for enemies or summons are Chimera, Hydra, Centaur, Cerberus, cyclops, and much more. Most of these monsters have different atributes to them, such as a water element, or earth element. For instance, the Cyclops obviously has to do with the earth in the myth, so no doubt, it has an earth element in the games.
