I just finished the game...GOD, the last boss was hard...though I beat her in my first try. But both my fighters kinda got killed, and I didn't bother reviving them because it would mean either using my Devout's healing spell, which would mean I'd get killed because my team isn't fully healed, or using a precious Phoenix Down, which you can't get in stores in this game.
What did everyone think of this game? It wasn't that good of a Final Fantasy game, but still, it was pretty darn good. And the last boss song rocks. The last boss song and the thought that I beat the game kinda nullifies my anger at all the flaws in the game that I found earlier....
Oh yeah, I beat the game at around level 53 on average for my characters (one was level 52). Well, apparently, when I read some guides, I was supposed to be AT LEAST level 57 or AT LEAST 60 or something. Haha, I didn't even follow their strategies, and I won anyways (why the heck would I waste money getting shurikens so I can throw them all on some stupid boss?).
MY new strategy is this: NO FIGHTERS. Just have a devout and three Summoners. The Summoners summon Leviathan until the Cloud of Darkness starts using that god-awful FlareWave, after which they should use Bahamut, which is more powerful, to try to quickly end the battle. I say have all spellcasters because it's most important to have people who can live through the Cloud of Darkness's two powerful magic attacks (the Lighting thingee and the more potent FlareWave). Also, they're in the back row and take little damage anyways.
Seriously, though. FlareWave is one hell of an attack. Especially when it's followed by the lightning attack the next turn, before your healer can heal, because that means your fighters almost certainly die.
The sad thing is, I wasn't able to find people to trade friend codes with because I have a Japanese version and I live in America...so I missed out on a lot of good weapons and armor, as well as a fight against the hardest boss in the game, the Iron Giant.
Well, guides are always stupid... In FFVIII I saw "You canīt beat Adel unless youīre at least 55", and at level 44, I didnīt even use Magic... Just the 'Fight' command lol
I never played FFIII though... But I think itīll be a challenge. The first FFs are challenging... Dunno what happened from VI to VIII

VI was still a bit challenging...but from that game on, Square Enix started concentrating on plot and character more than actual game difficulty. That's what I think is more popular, and that's what sells better. I think.
VI is cool because it represents the transition phase between these two types of games....

The job system is cool in that almost all jobs are pretty much equal at the end of the game. Just remember that the Monk is useful to have because it becomes more powerful in attack with higher job level, and knight because it can hold both the excalibur and ragnarok, but otherwise, you're probably going to change jobs at the end. Just remember to switch out of Knight when its equipment becomes scarce in the middle of the game (once you get the third crystal).

Magus? You mean the upgraded black mage? Because the Summoner beats the upgrade to the black mage by A LOT. He can do attacks that do damage like -aga spells do to one person, to all the enemies, and also can use Bahamut, which, though it cannot be casted as much, can do about the same damage as flare, and Leviathan, which can be casted a fair amount of times and can do almost as much damage.
Get rid of the scholar and ranger. They're useless. Get a monk if you can find ANYONE over the internet to trade mail with! Even if you can't, still get it! Monks RULE. And train a knight...they're the only class which can hold both the Excalibur and Ragnarok, the two best swords in the normal game (there's the Ultima Weapon with special quests you can get by exchanging mail with friends, but...well, that's only if you can find others with this game who are willing to do that).

FF III for DS is meant to be the only FF game which wasn't released outside Japan, not a remake of VI. I was watching a DVD with a trailer for it and it looks totally different from VI.

Of course it's different from VI! VI is a MUCH better game in every front except graphics! Well, and how hard the game is...III can be REALLY hard at times.
And by the way, the reason the ranger is better than the knight is because the knight starts getting dated around then. Until you get diamond armor, you shouldn't use the knight. Just use a monk and something else...like...*checks list of classes available at that point*...well, a dragoon or viking. Probably a viking at the moment. Or maybe even a bard, though I don't know how good they are at that point...probably not too good.
I would reccomend the following party where you are:
Monk, Viking, White Mage, Geomancer. It works against the boss in the gold palace.

FFIII can be MEAN at times. Like when bosses use attacks there's no way you can live through, and you don't have any phoenix downs because you can't buy any, and so you get wiped out and have to start from the very beginning of the dungeon because there are no save points. This is especially true with the five bosses you have to fight in a row before you can fight with the last boss...one flarewave+lightning combo from the last boss kills you, and you gotta do the whole sequence over.
And what Falian said is very true. Like I only used a guide for Zelda: Twilight Princess when I was completely stuck. It turned out what I had to do was so obvious I didn't even think of it...

The Gold Boss was Fing easy. I also just beat Garuda so now I'm gonna just figure out where to go next.
Also, I changed my (the girl) into a Monk and she sucks. She's doing Alot less damge than my Ranger, Red Mage and Knight. The Vikings are slow growers and I dislike the Dragoons and how their Aggility drops. I have nothing for the Geomancers
