i'll give some more info on what i mean. i don't own the game but plan to. i would like to what the battle up system is like ff7 has the materia thing ff10 has the sphere grid thing what does ff9 have.
Ok here goes, just read those you find important to you k...
First of all, the battle system is based on Item Learning Ability system where your characters learn certain abilities accounted for certain characters by equipping the weapon and gain AP. It works just like FFVII's materia system but instead of equipping materia, you must equip the weapon with the abilities the character are able to learn (the ability would be seen highlighted if the character can learn that skill). Characters can use the abilities from the weapon/armor they equip even though they haven't finished learning the skill, but once you finished learning the ability - you can equip other weapons/armors to learn more abilities as the previous ones are learnt and you can use them without equipping the old weapons or armors.
Now, you are limited to equip a number of abilities based on your characters' level. Those supportive abilities like Auto-Haste for instead needs to be attached with an amount of crystal (each character has their own amount of crystals, and the amount increases as you level up allowing you to attach more supportive abilities). Once you've attached the crystals, the supportive abilities will be automatically activated during battles. Those Active abilities you learn from weapons and some armors don't need crystal attachment, such as Steal, Fire, Cure, etc. Its enough if you've learnt the ability from the item equipped.
And they've introduced class specification, the main hero Zidane is a thief..so all his Active Abilities are mainly thief skills like Steal, Treasury, etc. Other characters are specified into their own classes, like Black Mage, White Mage, Monk, Knight, etc. You might find some FF Tactics abilities inside FFIX ^^. Summons are called Eidolons and only two characters can use Summon ability. They also introduces combo attack between a black mage character (Vivi) and the knight (Steiner) so Steiner can use magical blade attacks like Fire Blade and mana is consumed (you'll see Vivi casting a Fire onto Steiner's sword as he strikes).
One last thing, FFIX battle system is based on levelling up basis unlike the previous FFVIII. Levelling up allows you to attach more supportive abilities onto your characters besides increasing your characters' stats. The monsters are standardize to their levels according to areas, unlike FFVIII where the monsters level up as you do. Oh and one last thing, you won't be suffering from repetive summon animations as the summons will only show a short animation of attack after previewing the full animation at the first time summon.
I can think only these battle sytems, there's also weapon synthesize system which kinda confusing if I explain...simply listen and learn from the game itself.
Canīt explain it better by myself... The ability system is based on equipment, as squallpayne just said. You might also like to know the Leveling Up system is closer to FFVIIīs system that to FFXīs ^^
Maybe yes maybe not, we can alter the topic to discuss how we feel about the battle system in FFIX....actually there's a lot of comments saying FFIX's battle system is less innovative.
Talking about majorityīs opinion, VIIīs the best. I still think it isnīt though. I found IX being better, therefore I think itīs better lol, I donīt give a damn about other peopleīs opinion XD
Well, I donīt compare graphics. In fact, I think graphics suck. Why? They make sequences much longer, since characters take longer to speak... What in my case, and maybe only in my case, remove will to play.
As for the storyline, I believe that the release date of the game doesnīt matter at all. I personally think FFVI had an excellent storyline and the most developed characters up to date, and it was released in 1994 or 1995 I think.
I just care about my own opinion. Iīm different than most of people, and I donīt care about that, Iīm supposed to be a unique person, which I believe I am.
