not saying there's many lifestreams, but maybe the lifestream we know controls, not only gaia, but the whole universe. as for sephiroth, lara's correct there. sephiroth was born from lucrezia and hojo...who were both injected with jenova cells, he wasn't created to recreate jenova, he was born out of it...sort of. he was evil cos he found out about this experiments, that's why he held a grudge agains shinra and, in some point, he started to hate everything else.
now correct me there, but he kinda wanted to follow his mother's steps right? sail the darkness of the cosmos using gaia, then he would find another planet to create his "shining future", which probably was gonna be possible by creating many other jenova's "children" as himself...
last paragraph's just a theory i came up with based on the movie and the game XD but *shrug* i think that's what he was planning

By injecting those children, or practically anyone else, with Jenova cells they will get the Geostigma which will eventually kill the person who has it. So when they are killed they will go to the lifestream (I am not sure about what's coming) carrying the cells inside their bodies and so Sephiroth will begin to control the lifestream. And if what we're saying about the lifestream being connected through the entire universe then Sephiroth will... control the universe ...
But; based on the movie; the lifestream has been proved to be more powerful than Jenova cells or the Geostigma, because of the ending of the movie, so why wouldn't the lifestream itself destroy Jenova cells when the dead person goes to the lifestream.... in this case Sephiroth will never be able to control anything

I had the impression from that game that the lifestream belongs to earth because bugenhagen says if the lifestream is taken away then the planet dies from what ive gathered the lifestream is not unlike the vital systems of the human body, it's sort of like the planet's respiration, nervous and immune system all in one at least this theory works with all the other themes in the game about the planet being a living thing in and of itself. so in this way every planet that cultivated life would have it's own lifestream. So if we carry on this theme of planets being like living things then Jenova could be one of two things either a virus or a parasite, possibly both at the same time.

@ lara: the planet couldn't fight it off itself, remember aeris had to summon holy, AND it was also her who kinda pushed all the souls in the lifestream into stopping meteor, you can read that in the stories SE wrote, one is "on the way to a smile" with denzel's and tifa's case, the other one, the one where you can read this is "a maiden who travels the planet" or something like that XD can't remember XD
and wasn't jenova a kind of alien? yes sure, a parasite would be acceptable, since the ppl who died from geostigma carried their consioussness into the lifestream and chocked it...corroded it...what i want cloud is to...omfg sorry XD anyway, it was jenova's legacy that "hurt" the planet...but i though she was a living organism who crashed the planet, meaning she came from outter space...meaning she was an alien of sorts...maybe an a lien parasite

yeah she was clearly an aline but what im getting at is that she was a virus to the planet because as you said she infected the lifestream with her 'legacy'
