So, in a recent sony thing, they said ff8 was "coming soon" to the psn. so im gonna say within a months time it should be avalible, probably at $9.99. pretty awesome you guys. can't friggin wait.

oh, and the fact that we can keep the older ff's forever is the best thing since sliced bread. Now i can clean my old discs, store em away, and just play the downloadables..
Only the backwards compatible PS3s will play PS discs.

I've heard that they're 'supposed' to be releasing dlc that makes the newer PS3s backwards compatible, but first off I doubt it, and secondly wtf? I suppose paying more for it is kinda worth it, but how do you pull that off? Are the new ones actually backwards compatible but it is locked off or something? and the dlc activates it? I just don't get how that would quite work.
I don't remember where I found this info, because I pretty much forgot about it, due to the fact that my PS3 is backwards compatible. It was a $500 version, back before most of the price reductions that came with less features, but I'd say it was totally worth it. If I ever buy another one it will probably be a used one off of ebay that is has backwards compatibility, and probably costs $800.
So it doesn't get any newer than that. And it plays psone games

o_0 I know a guy who has a slim and it plays nothing but PS3, he kept his ps2 because of it as well. This isn't first hand experience, but he isn't stupid, so yeah... meh, who knows, I just know that I'll never buy one that isn't backwards compatible...
And considering my experiences with the PS One (the "slim" PSX) and the PS2 slim, I probably won't buy a PS3 slim...
My original PS2 is the most reliable console I've ever owned. The PS2 Slim that I bought practically fell apart in a few weeks, luckily it came with a warranty so I got my money back. >.>
Plus I know multiple people who own Slim PS2s and they all seem to suck something awful.
My PS One just doesn't like to read discs properly... It gives me nonsense errors like "this is not a ps1 game" and I'm like "you're full of crap"... Yeah. Or I'll put in a ps1 game and it thinks that it is an audio disc...
i thought it was as egam said...ps3 slim plays psx games but not ps2...and supposedly, sony decided to remove the backwards thingie so the system could compete in price with the xbox and nintendo wii...a stupid thing to do if you ask me, i want a ps3 backwards compatible, but that's just too expensive...and i am NOT buying a ps2 XD i want a ps3 XD so i'm trying to get an emulator...got one but i haven't made it work! XD

On another note: Tsuki, I've got PCSX2 working, so if you're using it (it's the only ps2 emulator that I know of so you probably are) and need any help just pm me or something.
Actually this applies to anyone that is trying to get PCSX2 working. It is a pain, but I've gotten it to work so it is possible.
