No problem. You're certainly not the only person who thought that. That post was really meant to address everybody, you just reminded me that I should have stated that earlier.
More information:
Hardcore Mode: I don't think everyone fully understands the effects of Hardcore Mode, so I'll describe them the best I can here.
First, and most importantly: Ammunition has weight. IT'S NOT MUCH! Everybody I've talked to about playing hardcore mode seems to be afraid of this. There is a perk that helps you out dramatically, Pack Rat. This perk makes everything that weighs less than (or equal to I believe) 2 weigh half as much. This effectively makes most ammo weigh half of what it normally does. Pack Rat can be obtained at level 8. Strong Back adds 50 units of weight to your carrying capacity, is also obtained at level 8, and obviously helps as well.
50 caliber bullets weigh 0.25 before Pack Rat, but that's a freaking 50 cal bullet man. 5.56mms, which I've been using a lot in my examples, is an average round, and it weighs 0.026. Zero point zero two six! That's practically nothing. 50 rounds weighs a whopping 1.3, so really, it's nothing to be afraid of, unless you're hauling around a 50cal with hundreds of rounds for it (Which is really unnecessary I might add, every bullet should be a kill unless you fail at Gun skill or aiming in general.) Even still 100 50cal rounds is only 25 weigh, totally worth it for 100 50cal rounds.
Next up, Stimpaks heal over time. This is also something that people blow out of proportion, it takes 6 seconds for a stimpak to heal you. From what I understand food heals over time in normal mode as well as hardcore mode, and it takes significantly longer than 6 seconds for the better stuff. Stimpaks are still weightless. Super Stimpaks are also affected by the over time effect, but they only take 3 seconds. Also, there are enemies that use Stimpaks. I don't know how it works in non-hardcore mode, but I know for a fact that when an enemy uses a Stimpak in hardcore mode, it heals them over time, just like they do to you.
Stimpaks are incapable of healing body parts. Now this, I can understand the fear for. This can be a serious issue for a while. However, by the time you are really taking enough damage to your limbs to be concerned about healing them, you'll probably have a couple of Doctor's Bags, and even a few Hydras. Hydras are a godsend for this very reason. Hydras heal your limbs over time, yes all of them, for enough that if your entire body was crippled, it will be at full health when the Hydra wears off. However, powerful chems come with powerful withdrawal effects. If you get addicted to Hydra, you will get a -3 penalty to your Endurance. Fixers can remove addictions. The item info says temporarily, but I've never had one come back, and I've never found any other way to remove addictions, so I can say with some certainty that Fixers are permanent. Doctor's bags are kind of rare, you can find one in Doc Mitchel's house, which is where you start the game, and it is free for the taking. As rare as they are, they are nothing compared to Hydras, Doctor's bags will heal one limb for half of its total health. Nice for a quick pick-me-up, but Hydras are a much more permanent solution. Also, Doctor's Bag's weigh 0.5, whereas Hydras, like all other chems, are weightless. Sleeping in a bed you own will also heal your limbs and health.
Rad Away also is over time, but this has no significant impact in my personal experience.
Companions. When a companion runs out of health in "normal" mode he/she will be rendered unconscious and revive shortly. In Hardcore mode, when a companion runs out of health, they die. Plain and simple. People die when they are killed.
Dehydration, Starvation, and Sleep Deprivation. These can all be checked under the status tab in your pip-boy. They use the same sliding scale that radiation does. At 1000 you die, until then, the penalties get steeper and steeper as the numbers climb. At 200 you'll hardly notice anything, this is more of a warning that says "hey, you should eat/sleep/drink". At 400 you may start to notice some performance effects. At 600 it starts to get serious, and your hud will inform you of this because the icon corresponding to your dire stat will be red. At 800 you are in some very serious trouble, and again, your hud will indicate this by making the icon flash red.

(Yet another double post)
Keeping your dehydration, starvation, and sleep deprivation low is really a simple task. And in fact you may find yourself feeling like you're wasting healing items on your stats, just because you're already at full health. Carry some water with you, even if it's Dirty Water, it still rehydrates you, and only comes with like 4 rads. Same with foods, I would suggest staying away from the foods that give you negative stats, but any other foods are nice to have. The food that you get off of wild animals is usually good, and most of the stat reducing ones can be cooked with survival skill to make them not only better, but also remove the stat reduction. Sleep Deprivation is an easy one, it grows on you slower than any other stat, and is very easy to remove, just find a bed, or keep a small supply of Atomic Cocktails on you.
Lastly, Hardcore Mode can be toggled at will. You can go into the pause menu at any time and turn it on or off. The only thing stopping you from doing so is if you're after the achievement/trophy. Those require you to start the game on hardcore mode (when it prompts you upon leaving Doc Mitchel's home) and keep it on the entire time.
Remember, Hardcore mode has no direct effect on the difficulty of enemies, nor how killable you are.
Edit: I've been playing today and realized I missed something rather important. This is not a Hardcore Mode change however.
Weapon requirements. Some weapons have listed requirements. For example, the Gauss Rifle requires 5 Strength and 75 Energy Weapons skill. However, requirements isn't really the right word, the "Requirements" aren't required at all. However, if you meet the requirements, you will be significantly better with the weapon. If you do not meet the requirements you will fail quite terribly with it, dependent upon the gun. The most prominent issue with not meeting the requirements is accuracy. Your accuracy will be tremendously affected by not meeting the requirements. I haven't found much else that it affects, it probably reduces the damage you do with the weapon, I'm not sure.

More info.
S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats:
The effects of these stats has been drastically altered since FO3.
Strength: Like before, Strength increases you're melee skill by 2 per point, increases your carry weight by 10 per point, and your melee damage by 0.5 per point. It now also increases your unarmed damage by the same amount, and dictates which weapons you can use effectively due to their strength requirements.
Perception: Perception is pretty well unchanged. It determines the distance at which you see enemies on your compass, and your skill with energy weapons, lockpick, and explosives by 2 per point.
Endurance: Endurance is much like before, you gain 20 health per point still I believe, and 2% rad resistance. You get 2 points of unarmed skill per point, like before. And unlike before you get 2 points of Survival skill per point. Also, the number of implants you can get is limited by your endurance, 1 per point.
Charisma: Charisma has been changed a bit. It still influences your Barter and Speech skills at 2 per point. It now influences the power of your companions. They will straight up have more armor and deal more damage based on your charisma.
Intelligence: Intelligence remains largely unchanged, it increases your Medicine, Science, and Repair skills by 2 per point. It also increases how many skill points you can assign at each level up by 1 per point.
Agility: Agility has been given some more importance than before. It now influences your Guns and Sneak skills by 2 per point, similar to FO3, but with Guns encompassing more weapons than before, this is an improvement. It now increases the rate at which your action points regenerate, rather than flat boosting your max, also a major improvement imo. It also now affects your running speed. This a major change that makes Agility significantly more desirable.
Luck: Luck has also seen some improvements. As before, it increases all skills by 1 per 2 points of Luck, and increases your critical chance by 1% per point. It also now affects "enemy mishaps" including guns being jammed, running into traps, and generally missing. Luck also plays a HUGE part in gambling. With low luck you will find yourself only burning caps at casinos, but with 10 luck you practically have an infinite source of caps if you have the patience to play a few hands of blackjack, or pull a lever a bunch of times. I do not believe this affects Caravan, which would honestly explain it's entire existence.
That's all for now, I'll probably do a writeup on the Skills later.
