ESRB
why cant people actually read the ESRB? so many games would get off the hook if parents would just read it.
anyway, the ESRB needs some changes:
1: Make the ESRB sticker 4x Larger and be a sticker so you can remove it and see your boxart AFTER you buy it.
2: Introduce Mature Teen 15+
3: Require the Cashier to tell anyone who is buying the game with a kid around the ESRB rating of the game and if they understand why it is that rating.
ok now that we got that out of the way..

I think your third option would solve the other two you have listed. It is really about the parent understanding the ESRB rating. However my parents let me watch anything I wanted at the age of 5 heh, they said that as long as I knew right from wrong it doesn't matter.

true.. but there are some really stupid parents out there.. and having the sticker would help the cashiers first as the parents would notice it first.
i hate the greedy politicians thinking this is their moment to shine by blaming Video Games for all of our problems. just making ESRB more noticeable. and making sure that every parent understands it is plenty enough to know that the retards who STILL do what happened in the game can finally blame their parents for not knowing their kid enough.

We have a different rating system here and I think they've recently changed it to make it 'tougher', lol.
When I bought Empire Earth 2 at EB the clerk asked me for ID to check if I was 15 i think (The rating on the game was M15+)...I stood there thinking what the...I'm 19! I mean geez, do they ask everyone for ID??
Yet I remember on my 18th birthday I rented Kill Bill from the video store (which is an R 18+ movie) and they nevr asked if I was 18...

The ESRB ratings will be useless until a law is passed making it illegal to sell games to kids under the age rating or adults that are clearly buying the games for such kids.
Most parents don't care about their kids or what they do these days. Even those that do understand the ratings just don't care.

Videogames really aren't the source of our problems: http://gr.bolt.com/articles/violence/violence.htm
But in reference to GTA being kicked up to M...I must say, it is rather unfair. The game does not COME with the patch that makes the "minigame" that gives it the M rating. It was a mod created by someone that was first computer-only, then was ported to the console version. You still need to GET the mod to make it have the M rating.
I'm not a real fan of GTA, but I still say that it's unfair to rate it so. Alerting about it could be usefull, but anyone could make a mod to any videogame and give it M content. You could take a Spongebob Squarepants videogame, make a mod where you control two characters "getting it on" and that would be M content. Bah! Annoyance at them for kicking up the rating on something not shipped with/distributed BY the game/game creator people.

grilled i think you ment Bumped up to Ao.
frankly i think the series is doing well enough that if the ESRB decided to permantly make all future GTA's Ao then Rockstar could just sell it online..
i will guarantee you that parents will think twice about letting their kids buy the game with their credit card online.
i will also guarantee you that all of the fans will still order it.

I come from the land down under
But I'm still unsure on the ratings. It used to be the same rating system for movies and games etc but I still remember seeying LOTS of kids in the Lord of the Rings cinema's, which was M15. I think if you see a movie with a parent it's supposed to be ok, one thing which I think is totally wrong.

Yes, sorry, my mistake.
The true fans should order it online if they continue rating the series Ao, although some of its younger audiences/stricter parents may second guess their original idea of letting their offspring play the game.

I think that it should be okay, but there should still be an age barrier. Like if something's rated PG-13 or something, they shouldn't allow a child younger than 6 or 7 see it regardless. They cause a great distraction to the viewers and such.
When I went to go see some action movie, "King Arthur", I think it was, there was a 3-4 year old running around in there 'cause they came w/ their parent. I just think that's wrong and distracting to other viewers. Either find a baby sitter or wait until the movie comes out on video...
