Everyone can judge themselves by themselves, whether they are emotional or not. Or by someone who knows them very well and knows if the situation is worth crying for or not. Everyone has standards to what’s being too emotional and sensitive and what’s not. And it’s different standards from one person to another. And of course there is difference between crying in public and crying in private.

Neither an emotionless guy nor a highly emotional is good.
The best is what’s between.

I would dislike the act of a guy whom I think is very emotional, and on the other hand I would also dislike the act of a guy who doesn’t show the smallest amount of emotions over a serious heartbreaking incident. It’s unhealthy to keep one’s feelings deep down inside and not express them, I do realize that, but there are many other ways of expressing feelings than crying.

In the case of anime or movies; I would consider guy’s tears over an anime or a silly movie is very ridiculous, especially anime since it’s just cartoon after all. A guy that cries over a chick * is... I won’t even comment on that. As for truly good movies or any kind of story of glory or of those who sacrifice their lives for the sake of the greater good or anything sad of high morals or beliefs or a true devastating story; I think it’s acceptable for them to shed few tears at a situation like that, but not cry like babies.

Generally; there are those serious situations were men will be considered completely emotionless if they don’t cry, at least by me. Situations like; the death of a family member or a friend; what’s more painful than that? At very happy moments that only occur once in a lifetime. On the other hand; sometimes in very difficult situations guys are needed to be the rock for others, it won’t be acceptable to just fall apart and cry because the situation is too difficult, and this is very important. If life is too difficult; thinking of the next step is wanted, not falling apart. There are some situations which are very difficult; like a member of your family died and the rest of your family needs the guy as their rock… in those kinds of situations a real guy would know how to act and what to do, more than an action I can think of.

You bring up some very good points, but as for family members, I don't think I'd cry for most of mine, I think maybe only my mother or sister would get tears from me... possibly my oldest brother. I would want to make sure my father was dead but everyone's situation is different....

As for you saying it is silly to cry over an anime or cartoon for that matter, I say your logic is flawed there. You say only good movies deserve tears, what makes a movie good is totally based on opinion. Whether or not the movie does well at the box office, is based on a true story or even if all the critics in the world say it's the best movie doesn't necessarily mean it is going to speak with you. I could see some person get tortured or a alcoholic father beating his children and think "that is despicable that people actually go through this" but not shed a tear. On the other hand, I could see a mother struggling to raise her children in poverty or a child going to bed hungry not knowing when they are going to eat next and almost break down. Things I've dealt with or seen in my life effect me more than things I can only imagine... Same for everyone else...

All movies and anime are fake (to a certain degree) I could take real life events and get some animators to make an anime for them... the 9/11 crap... World War I & II... Genocide in Darfur... Take actual facts and quotes and make these animators make an anime show (realistic of course). What then separates that anime with a movie that is good enough to cry over? It is because you are using real people...

I think your statement shows your ignorance (or maybe 'lack of ability' might be a better way of putting it) in separating the medium and the message. While a motion picture might be more visceral to your senses, each person is different. A lot of the time I can see a person acting and that takes me out of the suspended disbelief and puts me in the mindset "this is fake". Anime on the other hand fakes the emotions we see on people (because they are drawn), but they don't waver or give any tells they are lying... the only way you can tell is in the voice and if the voice actors are good enough, you cannot. But I guess you could use my logic against me, because good actors don't have noticeable tells...

When it all comes tumbling down the world is built upon opinions and facts that the majority of people believe are true. Most people's opinions tend to sway with the beat of everyone else's drum. I choose to walk my own path and "beat my own drum" regardless of what other rhythms are going on around me and if you think getting emotional over an anime is silly, then I say, get me some clown make-up and I'll amuse you!

I do agree with you on the whole being a rock to help others get though extremely emotional times though... like being the piece of drift wood a drowning person cling to in a sea that is made of tempestuous emotions...

[Lara, Now that I re-read your post for a 3rd time, I realise I made the mistake of focusing on your anime comment a little too much. You pretty much said what I said in the beginning of your post, I really shouldn't have put to much weight on what you valued for a guy's emotions but I do respect your opinion as you are very well spoken(written?) so I hope I didn't seem too... {insert your own word here (^_^)}]

By good movies, I meant movies that contain a huge part of reality in their events or ones that are related to reality in a way. I like some comedy movies but it is impossible to include them, so no when I said good movies it was not all about personal opinion. You just proved my point by saying “All movies and anime are fake (to a certain degree) I could take real life events and get some animators to make an anime for them... the 9/11 crap... World War I & II... Genocide in Darfur...” so the reasons you are referring to are real life tragedies not the cartoons you are watching and the anime characters in it but the reality it reminds you of whatever the situation was.

I am old-fashioned and it is something I am proud of, it’s a matter of opinion after all and that’s mine; I don’t like whinny people, guys or girls, but guys should be tougher and are less sensitive than girls are. That is a fact not an opinion of mine, and personally, I would feel uncomfortable and annoyed to see some guy cry more than I do. Did I ever cry over cartoons? Yes, when I was a kid I might have done it, but not anymore since I don’t watch anime nowadays in the first place and I certainly don’t expect a grownup guy to cry over it. Many girls are different and have opinions that are the exact opposite of mine, some of my friends who are girls have. It’s a matter of opinion, and it should remain an opinion.

Respect is all I ask Wink
