Empathy or just my emotions?
So as I grow older... well from back in my teen years. I've noticed that I can almost be brought to tears by events (fictional or non-fictional) that would have otherwise been like meh...
For instance, I'll be reading a book and let's say someone gets turned down from someone they truly do love... My heart will hurt (I call it pang because that is the only word I have come up with to describe the feeling), or when someone dies to someone really close in an anime or book... Anger, sadness, these things bring me close to tears (watery eyes, no tears actually coming out)
Now as a guy (a non-emo guy) I shouldn't be like this... I find I have to fight for my eyes not to water infront of my manly friends so I don't look like a wuss (trust me ladies big no no for guys to look like their going to cry because some fictional character lost his/her mother).
I try and rationalize/understand almost everything of my 5 senses and the world at large. I have deduced that I am either very emphatic or I have relate things to my traumatic periods in my life (heart pangs because I too have felt to tearing of a heart when one is loved but the feelings are un-reciprocated...
Hmm... Maybe I think too much... Guys help me out... ever happen to you?

Yeah not my most proud moment to admit this, but I was wondering if I'm the only one (obviously not but knowing helps ease the pain lol ... no pun intended...)
Another questions (too many from me already) is, is it ba[d] to be emphatic? I['d] like to think that people like me for who I am[,] but what if I am what that person needs me to be emotionally? Is that really me or is that someone else? Ahh all these questions and [only] vague answers myself.
I should just hit the weights and run a lot more so my mind is too tired to think... Which leads to another question... which I just no[w] forgot... oh here it is, can one think themselves to death or at least really harm themselves with thinking too much (not mental state here cause I know that you could make yourself mad... muahahahahah!)

From what I can gather I try and force myself to think how would I feel in that situation and make it real world... But it happens real quick and I cannot make myself stop it. I don't want to be numb towards the world... and I don't ever want to be considered an emo... Sorry but that scene is really f***ed up! I don't want to be too empathetic... I guess I don't really know what I want... I should stop this is just turning into a vent thread for myself... Too many thoughts and questions and self-assessments... I just need some sleep... Well after I finish my linux assignment.

There's nothing wrong with showing emotions...heck my Uncle Barry who's the manliest person I know blubbered like a baby watching Old Yeller. I hate it when I hear that men shouldn't cry its natural. You're a human and as one you have emotions. Anyway if you're reading a good book or watching a really good anime its easy to immerse yourself completely and get pissed off or sad when something bad happens. I have a question for you. If something good happens does it make you feel happy?

...hmmm I would really have to watch myself watching anime or reading. I get really pumped when something big is about to go down, but I think even if the main character finds love I still get heart pangs... Hmm... I'll have to report back to you on that one Tifa.

Hey, let me do some intro, a lot of ppl sees me as a manly guy (according to them). The thing is, i do cry for various reasons. Apart from that, if you watch Rocky Balboa, Rocky cried too in the movie, my impression on him still remain unchanged. So i guess it's perfectly normal for guy to cry and even manly guys do. 
Empathy or emotional, it might be both. I once read a novel by Nicholas Spark, the novel was so well written that i was able to relate to the main character. Therefore i felt really sad at some point. Then again, this may happen when we have emotion..in my case, i believe it is both.
As for you, it might be too

Well Tifa, admitting and doing it are two different thing altogether. As for me, i admit that crying is acceptable but most of the time, it'll only happen to me in private. I guess it's man's nature not to cry infront of others..it's who we are

That is the weird thing... I don't actually cry, it's enough emotion to tear up but actually crying (tears rolling down your face) that doesn't happen.
I've cried before, a good family friend died and I balled at his remembrance ceremony as I was saying a few words... My first day of swimming lessons when my mom dropped me off (7 yrs old or so) and I didn't want her to leave...
I think men can cry but I don't think men should blubber like a baby. I think man crying is always silent with tear rolling down your face, no sniffles just rock silence, lol!

i say it is natural and well when i started reading/watching stubasa, i got rly sad and actually cried while reading because well one carecter, loved another and that one loved the carecter that loved him but then the princess lost her " feathers"( her memories) and then the guy goes on a journey to get the princess's feathers back to venture to the other worlds he needs to sacrifice the most important thing to him, and what he sacrificed was the princess's memory of him, so they can never be together yet he still goes and ventures off for her feathers, and well that just rly made me cry...:(actually my eyes are getting watery from thinking of it atm
