Eidolon Capturing Strategy
This is just gonna be a reference for all players of the game who might get into trouble when confronting the Eidolons. I've died each time when fighting these beasts so I hope I'm not alone. (Then again I've died about 40 times in this game so far...)
So feel free to share your strategies and information. I'll write down what I've done and please feel free to add so maybe we can keep a concise list.
1st Eidolon
Shiva - Snow
I think the easiest is to simply become a Sentinel and let Nix attack you. You won't die because Striria will continue to heal you. This seemed to fill up Gestalt meter pretty qiuckly.
2nd Eidolon
Odin - Lightning
If you haven't died already in the game (unlikely) then you will easily die here the first time you fight Odin.
The trick I think is to note what move Odin is preparing or doing. If he is attacking then you have to switch to defensive mode, Yin and Yang. This fills up the Gestalt meter. When Odin is raising his shield you have to attack as much as possible to chain magic to raise the meter. But be careful and quick to change Paradigms because Odins attacks are pretty fast and brutal.
3rd Eidolon
Brynhildr - Sazh
I don't remember much about how I got it, but I am pretty sure that buffing Vanille (i.e Sazh is a Synergist) most of the time and then chaining magic attacks.
4th Eidolon
Bahamut - Fang
Isn't it awesome that Fang gets traditionally the coolest summon? Well it's fitting because she is kinda badass.
I caught this one yesterday and am pretty sure the strategy I used was so use Fang as a Sentinel with someone as a Medic, then I switched Fang to a Saboteur and that seemed to fill Bahmey's gestalt meter pretty quick.
5th Eidolon
Alexander - Hope
Man this one is the easiest Eidolon battle by far. I don't particularly remember Alexander doing many attacks but chaining magic seemed to raise his meter quickly. I also used Hope as a part time Medic whenever someones was hit by one of Alexanders mighty blows lol

Erm. Haven't beaten it yet. |
From the official strategy guide: "Yields to those who strengthen their allies."
Meaning synergist away. Hope that helps.

I found the easiest noob way of always winning against an eidolon is to cast Fortisol before the battle, and to try different paradigms during the battle to see which shift causes the eidolon's bar to raise the quickest

all of the eidolons yield to chain bonuses although normally quite slowly,
i found with sazh's one buff everyone then switch him to ravager and ravage away whilst occasionally switching vanille to healer when needed
bahamut yeilds quite quickly to being debuffed and then attacked, you just have to survive in the mean time cos his attacks can be brutal
for alexander i found hope died quite a lot here, but the strategy is similar to sazh buff everyone up and then let loose with ravagers/commandos however pay veryclose attention to HP and be prepared to have both hope and light healing
Vanilles eidolon is similar to bahamut, debuff then attack, again be ready to switch to a healer oh and dont bother making fang a saboteur cos it's immune to her debuffs have fang use sentinel mostly and switch to com/rav for short bursts to drive up that chain

Yes Ravager worked the best for me as well with Sazh against his eidolon. I read a lot of people had trouble with Hope's Alexander fight. The funny thing is that I did it while daydreaming, so I have no idea how I won lol. I just fought him normally, in fact I had to look up to see that the guage was already full since I had plenty of time left on the Doom counter. I think it was easy for me since I used Hope with my main group and leveled him up highly before the Alexander fight.

Everyone levels up at the same rate though the characters that aren't in your party still get the CP. The only exception I found for this is characters that have never been in your party before, and Snow doesn't gain the CP between when he first leaves you and finally rejoins after obtaining Shiva.
My problem with Alexander was that he was damn near capable of oneshotting Hope. His Explosive Fist attack dealt enough damage to leave Hope at less than 100 hp, and everyone else in the red. Maybe you were just overleved in general at that point.

Aw man Anubis thats why Libra says as well . Thanks for the help. I'm pretty sure I was switching between synergist and commando on my first go. So maybe that's why I lost.
On a side note why does Sazh always pull stupid poses when he fires his guns in Commando? XD
It reminds me of the Simpsons when Lou asks Chief Wiggum if he can hold his gun sideways because it looks cool lol

Yeah he looks totally goofy with those poses, however it is completely cool when he combines the guns together to turn into a rifle.

When you are given the option of choosing any Paradigm, I spent hours leveling up before the Alexander fight. Choosing the HP and MP boosts from each Paradigm for Hope boosted his stats.

Another thing I noticed was that the Target time for some Eidolons is about half an hour o.o Is that a mistake or what? The doom meter only ever takes 2 minutes I think.

I'm fairly certain that this was intentional on the developers part in order to force a 5 star, this way you get mucho TP so you can give your new Eidolon a test run.
Though this logic is flawed for the first half of the game, where you get forced to the other party right when you get them...
But devs are weird like that, they may have not originally planed for you to switch parties so soon and just never changed it after this became the case. This happens more commonly than one would think in the process of game development.

OK I have beaten the Alexander Eidolon again, he is still the easiest imo since he is so slow. Here is the best way to beat him easily and quickly.
1. I like to die on purpose and retry so it gives me the option to customize my own paradigms.
2. I have following paradigms in order:
- Relentless Attack
--- Hope = Ravager, Lightning = Ravager, Fang = Commando
- Diversity
--- Hope = Medic, Lightning = Ravager, Fang = Commando
- Evened Odds
--- Hope = Synergist, Lightning = Medic, Fang = Saboteur
Here is a pic of how I have it set up:
I start off with Evened Odds so Hope can cast Protect on everyone. Then I go on Relentless Assault and attack hard. When Alexander causes major damage, I switch to Diversity so that Light and Fang continue attacking while Hope casts Cure and Cura. I then switch back to Relentless once everyone is back to green health status. Repeat the attack and healing process and easily beat Titan.

that was the way i did it, but it took many tries because Alex tended to simply go "Sod it" and attack Hope several times in a row causing him to die outright

I found that having Fang as Sentinel also made the fight against the Alexander Eidolon quite easy. Since she'll be to use "Challenge" and thus take most hits - and survive - it leaves Lightning and Hope more or less free to attack the big guy. If you are lucky, Alexander won't be able to hit Hope until much further in the battle (but that of course depends on how each character moves...! Which is not always dependable.)
Either way, the tactic FuN provided is great!
Am I the only one annoyed by the fact you cannot access the main menu and change Paradigms the first time you fight an Eidolon? I know the Paradigms set up by default should be "good enough" - Since I fx. ended up using more or less the same strategy against Bahamut as the default - but it still bugs me that you can't do this when you can the next time you try.
