EGM shut down
So for those of you that are big into game (should be a large amount of us) the EGM magazine thats been around for just short of 20 years got bought out and shut down. the mag is no more. really a new age being as its been a big part of my younger days. Its sad. a lot of the internet staff was fired as well as anyone that worked on the mag. This includes the most of the podcasts put out by 1up.com. i listed to the 1up fm for a long time and it was really a great fm and now its gone.
anyway first id like to inform everyone that most of those on that podcast have gotten together right after they found out they were layed off and put together a new podcast called "rebel fm". you can go to this site and get it: http://www.eat-sleep-game.com or go to itunes and get it there (probably faster lol). You can also go to http://talkingorange.com/ and hear about what went down from those that got let go. those sites are connected and were all in the new podcast. these are some great guys and put out quality content for all of us and its a shame they got let go, but they are excited because now they can do new things so im gonna keep an eye on them.
anyway. anyone else going to miss the mag? it was probably the only one i read to any degree, the only one i had a subscription to back in the day, and they only place that were pretty honest with their reviews and not talking bribes and stuff. ill miss the mag for sure.

Seems like everyone on the planet is saving money and therefore all corporations that were used to people spending their whole check on luxury items are going out of business. It is beginning to concern me now since there has to be huge changes involved for people to have the confidence to spend. They are now losing their home or job or waiting for gas to skyrocket on any random day. I feel that the internet plays a huge role in this too. The ability go online to find info quickly and for free instead of paying a lot to outdated information to be delivered to you.

yeah its true, the printed word is losing followers by the second. im truely surprised newspapers are still around. where as i dont think ebooks will ever get to that status. theres just something about hold a book and reading from it that an ebook reader cant accomplish, but maybe thats because we are so set in our ways. on the other hand, it would save in a lot of trees staying up, but then that takes away jobs from some.
it is sad though that we have dug ourselfs as a society into this mess, so we either lose the things we are accustomed to, or have to suffer the negative effects of our actions just to have simple things like books that are actually printed on paper.
the day newspapers go will truely be the end of an era.

on the most recent "drunken gamers radio" podcast, they do an egm tribute episode and have a pretty substantial interview with shoe among other people.

Yeah newspapers are struggling too, but some people like my dad still read them since he still lives in the 60's. However the paper must have info that the TV news and internet does not since sometimes he mentions things that he read in the paper that I have never heard about anywhere else. I think that the economy is trying to reset and we won't let it. Back then only rich people had cell phones and drove big expensive cars, and now the average warehouse worker can afford those things and the system wasn't setup for everyone to live like doctors and lawyers.

| BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 29, 2009 — Steve Harris, founder of “Electronic Gaming Monthly” magazine, announced today that he has entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights, with plans to re-launch EGM in the second half of 2009. |
this is pretty cool news you guys. even if you dont care that much its still pretty crazy that someone is bring back a mag after it got shut down. ive never heard of that happening before. pretty nuts.

Ol' Ziff Davis. He's the guy who tried to pull the plug on FileFront. Then FileFront's staff came together and made it their own site.
